They are still trying to mop up the mess with the last update that has large battery drains and random reboots.

Since I'm on Verizon's edge plan I guess I'll pay off my phone and find another carrier. Seems strange that the biggest carrier is always last to update and still doesn't get the updates right

Not quite sure why you guys don't seem to understand that when it comes to updates it's far better to wait for EVERYONE else to deal with the unexpected bugs etc, etc before they send it out. I have only had one teeny, tiny issue with my Verizon phones and that was easily fixed thanks to a post here. People today have no patience whatsoever....Btw, I have had Sprint, AT&T and Verizon over the years and customer service and price wise Verizon blows them all way. It's not even close. I wouldn't switch carriers even if the competition was charging half of what Verizon charges me. Seriously. It's just not worth it.

I didn't download it. It downloads itself. Then it presents itself in a nag screen which comes up randomly. The first time it got me I pulled the battery and the update failed. The second time I didn't even see the nag screen, all I saw was it going into shutdown and when it started back up it was in update mode. I tried to pull the battery a dozen times. It did nothing this time and I had no choice but to let it install the dreaded update. I tried my best to avoid this update but it got me.

The last thing I wasted was this defective update.

Turn off your automatic downloads. Btw, your in a Verizon Galaxy S4 forum. Either way Lollipop is not available to Verizon S4 customers,(I just checked) so how could you have received it unless your phone is not an S4 and or Verizon is not your carrier? Sorry, I'm a lil confused at your post.

If you read my post $6 you'd realize that I was talking about the NC5 to NG6 update, not 4.4.4 or lollipop. And I don't know about your phone but my S4 can't refuse a pushed OTA OS update. Please enlighten me where I can shut off OS updates in a non rooted phone.

I'm actually upset. I had hoped it was as easy as flicking a switch. I tried to go back to NC5 and got into a process.android.acore loop. Phone was worthless at that point so I did a hard reset.

I'm back on NC5 and it fixed a problem with my 3G not connecting. I lost some phone numbers and my calendar information. And now the nag screen is back.

It really should be as easy as flicking a switch or just pressing a No Thanks button, or a not now button. Forced upgrades are stupid.

Hi all! I've owned my Verizon GS4 for quite a while now and as with all my phones, the first thing I did when I got it was to root it. Second thing was to install Titanium Backup which, among other things, gave me the ability to FREEZE 2 processes (can't even remember what they are now) that will force OTA updates and the nagging reminders to your phone. Long story short, my phone is still on 4.3 Jellybean (MK2) and I have NO desire to allow any OTA updates. (Until maybe 5.0 becomes available) I learned how to do this here, so thanks to all my predecessors! Being rooted also allows me to use apps like greenify, exposed modules, gravity app, all things that allow my phone to run smooth, quick and efficiently, with a typical battery charge lasting almost 2 full days.
I'm sure there are going to be all kinds of comments that will be either anti or pro root, but I don't care. I paid good money for my "tech" and I will do whatever I want with it. Please note that I educated myself thoroughly about rooting, roms, ect. before doing anything. I have zero issues with my phone and I say,"GOD BLESS ROOT!"
By the way, since alot of apps are upgrading to accommodate 4.4.3 or 4.4.4 or whatever, what I do before allowing them to update is to save the current version of the app (using Titanium Backup), allow the update, try it out, and if there are any issues revert back to the previous working version of that app. Again, I learned all this here, and also by bumping my head a few times.
While this obviously doesn't help those already stuck with a buggy update, perhaps it will help others avoid OTA updates until they want to. From what I've seen in these forums I feel fortunate that I dodged a bullet and grateful to those that helped me learn how to do it. What's really sweet about all this is that EVERYTHING a "smartphone" owner needs to know is right at their fingertips. No excuses for not knowing, just requires a little initiative to look before leaping and to practice delayed gratification.

I still have the option to root on NC5 but not to add custom ROMs. You can only do a few things with SafeStrap. The darn update program tried forcing itself on me again. I didn't press anything and it started to do a reboot and I know what that meant. I pulled the battery again and it had a failed update. I guess I'm going to have to do a towelroot to get rid of this update if it's going to activate without prompting it to.

If I'm not mistaken Safestrap is for flashing ROMs once you're rooted. Please correct me if I'm wrong. You stated that you have the option to root, so by all means, do it. There is a ton of info as to the correct way to root your particular phone here. Then after you're rooted (just need to be rooted with stock ROM, that's it) just Google or search here how to stop OTAs and OTA notifications.
I used Titanium Backup (root necessary) and froze the 2 system files? that were causing the problem. So root first, then install Titanium Backup, Create a backup, then freeze the 2 files or apks or whatever they are and boom, you're done. No more annoying push notifications and you can keep your phone right where it's at and avoid any future OTAs. I like this as it lets me watch what happens when others accept OTAs while I sit back with my phone set up and behaving exactly the way I want it to. I'll look through my phone but I believe the files you need to freeze are SDM 1.0 and (DAMN IT) another one I can't remember.
Hopefully someone else will chime in and help out, or you can really just Google it. Hope this helps.
