Cool,
thanks for the details on the update, please keep us informed if the battery life goes back to normal. This (the battery life getting worse) is why I'm concerned about the KitKat update, had battery life problems on 2 other brand phones after the 4.4.2 update.

This is GREAT! Thanks! I assume all you did was log into Google (after reset) before he sent you the update again?

Before I reset my phone, the rep tried to send it (the update) to my phone. It said it was downloading but for some reason my phone was not showing a progress bar in the notification bar. The rep suggested that either I could take my phone to a device support center or to factory reset and see if it will work. Well I reset my g pro and the rep sent the update to me again. Still no progress bar showed up but it eventually downloaded. The download of the update file took some time (30-45 minutes on Wi-Fi ugh) then the update was about 15 minutes or so ( I went to eat so I could be wrong about that). But when I finished eating, my phone was on 4.4.2 and looking good.

Ok I just did this process with an online support rep and it finally went through this time. There is NO PROGESS bar and I did reset my phone before I connected to support. 4.4.2 running great.

And it also helps if you call the right number:

1-800-801-1101

The reps there actually know what you are talking about. The call to them is necessary, even after the hard reset my phone wouldn't take the update, and came back with the 'phone not registered' error.

I did experience horrible battery today. I don't know if it was from the update itself or from me having my screen brightness not on auto like I usually do or from a bunch of open apps.

That number is good to know especially if u are unable to do a chat with a live agent online.

What I would like to know, as I haven't seen it elsewhere, is the hard reset absolutely necessary? While not a major one, it is inconvenient to say the least.

Another improvement/tweak I noticed (not sure if it was there before) is the additional access to sounds/ringtones that I don't think I saw before, i.e. you can now use a ringtone as a notification sound.

John,

I did the reset BEFORE I downloaded 4.4 and I actually did do a full factory reset again after it was fully installed and running well. I hadn't installed many apps yet so I just went ahead and did it. Nothing better than a clean slate.

Still waiting on update notification.....and waiting. New error, server busy, will automatically try again in 48 hours.

Huh, I just grabbed my G Pro to check on the update, now it says" you may check again in 111 hours 5 minutes" :/

Neil:

Good to know. I was asking more out of curiosity. Never rooted, so I've just been patiently waiting. Definitely agree with the clean slate concept.

Ok this is pretty typical of an AT&T update, I'm sitting here at work and my phone pops up that a software update is available, says it's like 789mb so I know this is the 4.4.2 update, I am on WiFi already and I hit update, it says download in progress, see progress in notification bar, I already knew that wasn't going to be there, but after about an hour I look it says your phone is up to date. Well I look and I'm still at 4.1 and nothing changed, rebooted, nothing, checked for update again, told me I can check in 108hours, changed the date, checked again, get the your phone is not registered again. But I did get the prompt that there is a software update for my phone at least once anyway without using" check for updates" to bad I never received it though.

Same thing happened to me once. I apparently didn't let it finish or it was interrupted. I would try the online support way. Much if it is described in this thread. You probably have already read it. I think I just got too impatient my first time. I also was able to see CONSTANT WIFI DOWNLOAD ACTIVITY which was a positive. Good luck. There's rumors at&t was going to pull the update due to bugs.

Is anyone using the OTA update? I got notified of the update after it had started downloading on my WiFi. I have Windstream internet at home and needless to say it is horrible. Download speed at the time of the update showed 0.25mbps, this is on dsl! Anyway, it failed. Should I try it OTA when it notifies me again?

Did you see anything to show it as downloading? Mine said it was and then just disappeared. Never came back and showed it was available again. If I try to check for it all I get is the "phones not registered" message again.

It had the down arrow with a line under the arrow until the internet quit. Then I got the wait 3 hr. message. Run the time forward and got the phone not registered deal. It only started downloading for about 3 - 5 minutes before the internet quit.

Was reading over in the XDA forums that an AT&T tech support rep told a customer that they were pulling back the update because of bugs in it, and said they will release it again when they fix it.....for AT&T who knows how long that will be. Don't know that this is" fact" but can't see why someone would lie about that.
