Never had Samsung device, and coming from Nexus, 6 months of OTA rolling, and still no OTA here is just annoying...
So please, is there a way to get 4.4? I even tried KIES, but it says that latest firmware is already on tablet...
Can anyone please help?

Live long and prosper.

I know that. I'm in Balkans. Europe. This is just anoying. I understand that OTA need few days to come to everyone, but six months are just......

You could root it
Thanks,
I found easier way.
Just downloaded official UK version of 4.4.2, and installed it via Odin...
Country of my tablet was Netherlands?!??
I have never even been there...
This is too easy that actually I'm looking for a bug, but this seems like legitimate solution...
Any ideas how this can cause problems?

Look at forums from the U.K for bugs. I am in the U.S by the way. I have had kitkat for a while and have not experienced any bugs. Just be aware that the only way for second and third party apps to write to the external SD card is via rooting and installing next app sd fix. Also expect the tablet to get hotter, if it gets too hot (which is very rare) there will be a message on the screen telling you that the tablet has to cool off. I only experienced that once and it was in hot weather extreme multitasking and a very cpu and GPU taxing game.

Also, rooting is very easy.

There are some apps which can write to the Ext SD Card Without rooting. (Maps Me for example). It can be done but developers are lazy.

It's not that apps can't write to the SD, it's just that the locations to which they can write are restricted. In 4.4 Google implemented a "policy" that an app can only write to a folder that it created. This prevents apps from writing anywhere and everywhere on the SD card and is intended to keep things organized and "sandbox" one app from the next. What this also means is that your Camera app can write to a folder but if you open those pictures in an editor you'll need to re-save to a different folder (presumably one created by the editor).

Jerry wrote a great article detailing how SD cards work in KitKat, it was posted on this very site. Here's the article: KitKat and SD cards — what's fixed, what's broken and what's misunderstood | Android Central

So what's to stop Apps writing to internal memory and causing problems?
Why don't all developers write their own directories on the Sd Cards?

There are a lot of APP writers out there that can barely get a app to read and write to any memory... Many do no understand the problem with SD card as its new and not clearly defined and understood yet...

Thanks Dale.

Does this permissions apply to internal memory? Surely that does as much harm potentially.

Also does the ability to write to the SD card depend on whether it is Fat32 or ExFat? If I am reading Jerry's article correctly.

Yes, the same rules would apply to internal memory, if not more strictly. I believe the changes to SD card access align the SD card capabilities with internal storage.

No, I don't believe it has anything to do with the format of the card.

I rooted my tablet twice, and I rooted my phone because I was bored and had a few minutes of spare time.

So Everybody is you? I can Root them but choose not to do it .... Just because YOU and me can do it doesn't make it easy for other people. I also wouldn't want to be tripping up Knox
