449.00 out of pocket

i know. Strange, isn't it?

I'm not sure how many people who are looking to buy off contract know about this, but i think this topic definitely needs to be known, whether it has been mentioned before or not;)

thanks for replying! I was posting this same issue on another forum, and was informed by another poster that BB apparently charges 100 to 150 more per phone off contract than does the actual sprint store( i have no idea why). Unfortunately the 50 dollar preorder gift card is nonrefundable, so i may have to buy the phone at spring and use the card to purchase something else:D

Again, im not completely sure about this, but i wanted to give everyone a heads up before delving into this

The information you were given is correct. BestBuy's full retail/no-contract price for Sprint phones is often anywhere from $100 - $200 more than Sprint's in-store/web/telesales full retail price for the same phone. If you want to pay the $449 price, you will need to purchase the phone from some place other than BestBuy. OTOH, if you want to start a new line of service or renew your existing upgrade-eligible line, BestBuy is a good option for that sceanrio as their prices don't involve mail-in rebates.

I agree, not only do we need to know Sprint full retail price, we need to know if they will sell the EVO to existing customers who don't currently have an upgrade. Sadly my upgrade isn't in June but I want to buy the phone at full retail on launch day.

$199 after rebate + $200 early termination fee = $399 < $449.

Why not sign 2-year contract and if you don't like cancel and pay fee?

Shouldn't chargeing more for the phone be considered price gouging and isn't that illegal???? 449 is the out of contract price.

FYI, the phone very well may be 7-800 at Best buy, that what the out of contract price for the pre was originally there, but has been constant at Sprint. If you buy out of contract, best get it at a Sprint Store.

You guys all said it best. For anyone who is looking to buy this phone, but is not eligible for an upgrade yet/ looking to buy off contract, then Best Buy may not be the best place to go; sadly this may not leave us with many options to preorder unless RS has a different policy. Some people seem to be absolutely certain that 450 is the official retail price from the sprint store...i sure hope so!

if you factor in the $10 monthly "evo tax" into the price of the phone, the $450 sounds about right... my guess is they tacked on the $10 per month to keep the consumers out of pocket price down

I have a feeling that you nailed that spot on

Best Buy gets an additional 100 to 150 by charging more for any number of reasons (profit margin, liscensing fees???) Not sure.

I can't tell you how awesome that would be. I just keep coming back to the fact that carriers in the past have been against selling phones off contract, especially on launch. I had this problem when I tried to get a Storm on Verizon on launch took me going to three stores to get someone to sell me one off contract. One store even said they were "out of stock" just for me to watch them tell a new customer they had plenty. Either way I will be lined up on 06-04 before the store opens.

That is hilarious in a sad kinda way:D It does make sense for them to put particular emphasis on new customers/ppl who want to renew a 2 year contract' but im fairly certain that there's going to be a decent amount of ppl who are not eligible yet for an upgrade, and that want an evo. I mean wouldn't selling phones to these ppl (who arent eligible) hopefully affirm the fact that they made the right decision to stay with sprint?

Im in the same boat with you...im going to be at my sprint store early, and hopefully walking out with an evo!
