4ext and s-on

I have seen contradictory statements concerning the possibility of flashing roms using 4ext and being s on. I have a rooted VM htc evo v. First, I think it is cdma. Is that true?
Has anyone flashed roms having s-on using 4ext?

You can flash any sense based rom.

You need s-off for anything else.

I used 4ext to flash a 4.0.3 non sence. But I had partially bricked when I tryed cm9 and then I flashed jmz odexd Rom and it put my phone back to stock and then flashed 4.0.3 non sence base and it works just fine. Although no 4G but 3d worked. I love 4ext an am s-on and it even let's me flash kernels.
