Hi everyone,

Hopefully I will get some help here.

I have been looking online with no joy.

The problem that I am having is that my phone works perfectly except when I turn on 4G or Wi-Fi. When I do this and open up any application that requires an internet connection (Gmail, Chrome, apps, etc) the phone crashes and turns itself off.

The phone is a standard Galaxy S4 and has not been rooted and far as I know I have not installed anything that would cause this.

Any help for a new member here from you knowledgeable guys and girls would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Welcome to Android Central! Does this also happen in Safe Mode?

Thank you for the reply.

Yes, it happens in safe mode.

Surely there is a fix for this without the need for a Factory Reset?

Any help, as I really do not want go through that.

Thank you.

If the problem happens in Safe Mode, that suggests it's either a firmware or hardware issue. You could try wiping the system cache partition, but that probably won't help: https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-27777. Wiping the cache doesn't erase any personal data.

If wiping the cache doesn't help, then you could try reinstalling the firmware. (A factory reset wouldn't help if the firmware is corrupt, since the reset would simply use the corrupt copy of the firmware that's already on the phone.) http://forums.androidcentral.com/am...amsung-emergency-recovering-samsung-kies.html. If that doesn't help, then it's most likely a hardware problem, in which case you'd have to send it to a repair shop -- I'm not sure how worthwhile that would be for such an old phone.
