Got phone today excited to turn on and activate and test the 4G.. sadly seems that without 4G I cannot activate my phone and have to wait till it's back up (after a call to verizon) .. the anticipation is killing me :'( .. haha

Oh well guess I have to play the waiting game.

Attempting but I came over from a different wireless carrier and porting my # over so they told me 4G must be up to activate the phone

Well, that can't be true since there are tons of people who have activiated their ThunderBolts in non-4G areas. Possibly "data" must be up... I dunno...

The 3G that the thunderbolt defaults to in other areas (non 4G) is SVDO (Not the regular 3G EVDO) which is somehow connected to the SIM card. Since the entire 4G/3G-SVDO is down no activation is possible.
I don't know if it would be wise to try and connect to the EVDO network to activate the phone using the discovered hack.

I have no idea if wifi would do it since you're new to the network.

Ahh... gotcha.... 4G/3G-SVDO by default. Not EVDO. Yes, I see. Thank you. That explains how folks in non-4G areas activate their phone... it uses the default 3G-SVDO (not available on non-4G phones) to do the activation. I think I get it. :)

I still don't get how some people have service (4G) right now. Oh well, I've been on wifi all day so it doesn't matter to me.

I am in the same situation. I tried to activate my phone, but it won't. I can't get it to activate my old phone either since it's hung in activation. Basically I'm without a phone and no way to do anything. I'm on hold with tech support right now.

Anyone have an idea?
