4G Hotspot

So, if you root the TB and get hotspot capabilities without paying for it, wouldn't Verizon find out about it somehow? As you probably can tell, I am a wuss :D

It's possible they could have packet ID for anything coming from that program and cross reference with your account to see if it was paid. I'd imagine they'd only try something like that if your data usage went through the roof.

they might be able to tell since you will be using more data. now that they will be throttling data for heavy users. But either way ill root and use free wifi hotspot, having it and using it once in a while is great

I agree. I rarely if ever use the free hotspot on my DINC while I'm home, but while traveling it's been invaluable for the ipad or my laptop with skype (which I won't have to use anymore with the bolt).

Some of you will find this amusing:

I am in the process of switching from ATT to Verizon. I started a line with VZW because I needed it for work, ATT sucks, no coverage. Ended up not liking the device I chose, swapped it for a dinc and gave it to the girlfriend while I wait on the thunderbolt. I have a samsung captivate, and like I said the service is horrible, so she just turns on her mobile hotspot whenever we are both out somewhere and I leave my captivate's wifi on and connected to her phone. I get 2mbps everywhere through her dinc hotspot while ATT will only ever get me 200kbps on 3g and 0-5kbps on edge(I usually only have edge) hahaha.

Yeah, the hotspot feature is probably something that I won't be using very often, just for fun and giggles. It would've been useful yesterday though, because my dad just bought a new laptop, and his house used to be able to pick up an open wifi hotspot somewhere, but it wasn't working.

The hotspot feature is probably one of the biggest features that draws me to the phone (aside from the OS). I have an iPad and iPod Touch, as well as a laptop. If I can get to the internet on those devices at any time, it sure would make things much easier.
