I live in Roanoke, VA, and when I was out to lunch today and noticed the 4G LTE icon on my ThunderBolt. I ran a few speed tests and here were my results:

Download: 25.10 Mbps Upload: 2.82 Mbps Ping: 278ms
Download: 15.23 Mbps Upload: 4.48 Mbps Ping: 240ms
Download: 16.78 Mbps Upload: 3.00 Mbps Ping: 234ms
Download: 19.30 Mbps Upload: 2.37 Mbps Ping: 211ms

Hopefully this means 4G LTE will be launching in the next couple of months in our area. Verizon hasn't officially announced any details for Roanoke, but they must be working on it!!! This is going to be awesome!!

That latency seems a little high for LTE, I welcome the testing :). Where were you when you got those numbers? Out near valley veiw, downtown? Seen LTE turned up since then?

Whoa, no way. That's excellent news! Where'd you find the 4G?

I actually got my phone in Salem and was skeptical when the lady said 4G for Salem/Roanoke by the end of the year but if they're already testing then it might not be far away!

Still don't understand why the state capital is not scheduled to get it any time soon...

The fact that we do not have it just further proves my point that we will never get any professional sports team....sigh....

i was just looking at vz's lte coverage map and you can summarize the coverage as limited to those cities w/ at least 1 team in the following leagues: MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who noticed this! I noticed it on Friday 7/1 and had time to run one speed test before it switched back to 3G:

I had the same thing happen in Huntsville, Alabama about the first week of June. Then our town was announced to get LTE on July 21. So, I'll bet you're not far away.

I was actually near Salem. It was on for a few days actually. But I noticed when I headed toward downtown Roanoke, I would lose 4G.

I'm in Christiansburg and this is very exciting news! Do you think it will reach me here?? I have a feeling that it won't :(

For those who are talking about richmond dont worried I live in richmond and I had the same thing happen to me. I was just texting on my phone and the signal went out then came back on and was 4g but a few hours later went out and havent seen it sense so soon it will be here hopefully

I'm in Richmond too, can't believe it either...I'm about to just get a Droid 3

I work in Richmond, and there is 4G out there now too. I am assuming that it's testing but myself and several friends have experienced this awesomesauce. It has been very consistent out on I-95 near the Downtown Expressway Exit and it carries out to I 64 to around Exit 190

Did anyone get 4G today in Roanoke or NRV? I'm in Christiansburg and I just turned on 4GLTE for s&g and did a triple take when I saw 4G! It's off again, so not sure if they are testing or I'm on the edge of it.

ETA: Now I have 4G up and running again :) Anyone else??

Well 4G went off Wednesday night and no 4G Thursday, but now I have a strong 4G signal. Anyone else in Roanoke or the NRV experiencing 4G glory?
