Way to take smaller photos?

I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S105G. The phone takes very large, high resolution photos, but I don't need that high a quality for some of the pictures I'm taking. They are usually for sending to somebody to look at on screen, not to print out.
While the Samsung e-mail app has an option to shrink the photos before sending, the Gmail app does NOT.
Also they wind up wasting a lot of space on my phone as work wants me to keep them for at least a month before I can delete them, and I might have as many as 50 photos on a job and they get upset if I say "I'm sorry, I have them backed up on my hard drive at home, but I removed them from my phone to free up space". Fortunately it is very rare that they request I resend photos after a (business) day or two and has only happened twice in 2.5 years.

So how can I set the phone to take smaller photos? I don't see ANY options about picture size in the camera settings, and I think I've looked everywhere and touched every unlabeled icon. The only thing that remotely affects things is the aspect ratio.

If you say "you need a different app", please recommend one that works with an S105G and won't spam me with 30 second commercials before I can take a picture, or push annoying pop-ups with advertising, and especially won't play noisy ads. I'm using this a work and I can't have it disrupting that.
It's not like I can get Google Play to display "Free apps only, but no intrusive ads". They ALL seem to have ads if they aren't paid.

If you have to go with another app, you could look at the Camera FV-5 Lite app.

It's technically a demo of their full app, but it doesn't have any ads or anything like that. It just limits your resolution to 1920x1440 (2.76 MP 4:3). Since you specifically wanted lower resolutions, i figured it was worth a mention. Their full version is only $5, in case you are considering an option to purchase one. It's advertised as having "pro" DSLR style controls, but has a basic auto mode as well for simple use.

Have you tried switching to heic format instead of jpeg? Here's the file size difference, same 12 Mpixel resolution, same camera. Samsung galaxy S25U phone.

Update, alternatively you can use an app like Adobe Express to resize the image without editing it. In this example I changed a 4000 px wide 12 Mpx image to 1000 px. That brought it down to 606 kB

The hassle is you can only shrink one pic at a time then after you check it you can delete the original.
FYI, I tried this without signing up for an Adobe Express subscription.
