4G peeked at me from my Rezound

Hi there,

I got a VZW newsletter I think it was last week advising new 4G areas so I took a look and it showed Madison and Milwaukee WI now in 4G. I'm about dead center in between these two cities. I plugged in my address/zip to see if I was now covered and it said I was.

I switched my phone from CDMA only to LTE/CDMA but never saw the 4G until tonight when I noticed it said 4G instead of 3G on my phone a few hours ago. Got a little excited and tried out my browser - *very* cool higher speed but I haven't seen the 4G since then. In fact it doesn't even say 3G but then it didn't always say 3G either, like it comes and goes. I dunno what I have when it doesn't indicate 3G (or now 4G). I'm thinking it's a tower thing maybe, depending on which tower my current signal is coming from?

As a bit of a test, I just turned off my wi-fi and now the 4G displays. Turned wi-fi back on and the 4G still displays for a brief time and then it's gone. Turn wi-fi off and 4G reappears.

I'm very confused. Is this how it's supposed to work? I've heard that 4G will drain my battery more quickly than 3G if I'm not using wi-fi. I only use the wi-fi at home. Going to leave the wi-fi off for a few hours and see what happens.

Your input is appreciated, thanks!
Deb

You may be in an extended network that receives a signal but not a strong one. That's why it may fluctuate but I would assume Verizon is working towards making you a standard 4G area. I would leave 4G off if that's the case because that back and fourth signal switching is the biggest battery kill. Check the map again and look closely at the coverage area. The extended zone and regular zone color coding may be difficult to distinguish upon first look.

Yes, when Wifi is on the cell data signal is off. Including 4g. That's how it is supposed to work.

Thnx for the help. And not that I doubted everyone else but yup 4G and/or the 3 --> 4G thing really does suck your battery life.
