5.0.1 - Notification bar icons on Lock Screen?

They're the worst on the lockscreen. Try to click on it and it tells you to swipe to unlock. It's just all really confusing.

I need a tutorial on how to interact with my lockscreen notifications.

Why is clicking the notification and then swiping confusing or complicated? You need to swipe to unlock at a minimum on these phones. Why would that change?

Before, If it's in the notification bar, I say oh I have a text you could click on the preview and get to the message. Now.. They show you a preview in a giant bar.. But you can't click it. It's counterintuitive

The change from Kit Kat to Lollipop can be confusing. I was befuddled by the notification change for days, til I happened upon a CNET posting, with a video showing the changes. It's just part of the game, I guess.

Here's a good example. The flashlight is on... The screen goes to sleep but the light obviously stays on. If I wake up the screen I get a lock screen with a bar notification that says "tap to turn off flashlight" how convenient. I tap, and just like with messages, emails etc it shows me the swipe to unlock screen, and btw the flashlight is still on. When I swipe to unlock it takes me to my home screen, where I have to click the icon to turn it off manually.

Hmmm.... if I lock my screen when the flashlight is on, I tap that notification and get prompted to swipe. Once I swipe it goes to my home screen AND turns the flashlight off automatically without anymore input from me.

Ok so you're right it turns off. But why do I still have to swipe? The bar notification is a waste of screen real estate if you can't interact with them.

But you do interact with them. If you tap the notification and then swipe, it takes you right to the app that created the notification. There will always be a sort of lock screen in Android that makes you swipe at minimum. The notifications don't change that.

You talk about being able to go directly to the app from the notification screen but that requires swiping down from the lock screen to first see the notifications and then tapping the notification. Now you tap the notification and then swipe the screen and it takes you to the same place.

Things change...

They started that unlock method with for lockscreen text messages with one of the KitKat updates.

I don't like that. With my S5 I had the safety assistance turned on and many times when I would swipe to unlock the notification on the lockscreen, it would send my emergency contacts the emergency message.

Ok, so even though this forum is for Note 4 owners, I have a Note 5, but I want to know if y'all keep getting the duplicate banner notification as well. I don't know if there is a setting where I can turn this off, or if this is a bug in Lollipop.

Great app, but doesn't solve the Hangouts banner not displaying. I don't want to reset my phone, so I just won't let the issue bother me.

Just to make sure see this post and check the screenshots by Macarim. This is exactly what we want!!
<I can't put the link to the post, but google "lollipop-update-no-status-bar-notifications-lock-screen" to see the post).

So is there any update on this? Any fix from Google? Workaround?

PS: The only closest workaround is Acdisplay app. But it "works" like we want to but only if you don't have the pin lock screen. Otherwise, you have to live with two lock screens (one for Acdisplay to show you the icons, and 2nd one is for the actual lock screen where you enter the pin.

I messed with the settings and the banner appears now, but I still Factory reset my device as the custom LED notification was not working properly on third party app, "Typemail".

I did go to Sounds and Notifications,Notifications, While Locked, and selected Do Not Show Notifications.

And I STILL get those ugly notifications of any event in my calendar with big red and yellow slider buttons.

Arrrgh!

Please advise. . .

had the same problem until I realized something.

I might have turned it on, or not, I'm not sure.
But I had the Quiet Notification turned on.

I went to Clean Master (that short brush icon), go to Tools, scroll down and find a Quiet Notification. If this has been turned on, search for the app of your choice (Whatsapp, Line, etc) and turned it off. All the missing notifications, should reappear at the top left when messages come in.

Hope this helps!

Another function that might be screwing up your notification - App Optimization by Smart Manager.
If App is being Optimized, you might not have notifications coming in at all until you open your screen.
Turn off optimization for them if u want to receive notifications.
