5.0.1

Is it really necessary or are there really any benefits to doing a factory reset either before or after the update?

There are some people that have recommended doing a "Factory Reset", but after this is done they also recommend updating all of the "stock" apps and don't install any 3rd party apps prior to the update. Some even recommend removing SD card prior to update.

Also, make sure that if the update is performed over Wi-Fi that it is still connected after the "Part 1" of the update.

Does anyone know how I would go about upgrading my SCH-l545? I've tried doing it through verizons software upgrade assistant and through the phones upgrade menu but neither find 5.0.1 for me. Is it pushed out in different areas at different times? I live near Hartford CT and am using page plus as a provider ( still uses verizons network though)

Nevermind, just plugged phone into verizons software assistant and it started the upgrade to 5.0.1. Hoping for a trouble free upgrade!!!

OK, so the update through verizons software assistant didn't work and I had to use kies. I manually had to stop the update through verizon after it being stuck at 83% for 5 hours. Only took about an hour through kies and was trouble free, 5.0.1 is running great.

So use kies to update, NOT verizon ;)

I got mine on Saturday after doing a manual software update check. After the two updates and then doing a factory reset, I must say I am impressed with that the S4 is running very well. If only my Nexus 7 (2012 wifi) was the same after going to Lollipop.
