5.5.893 Update...On Rooted Bionic???

I used the old (maybe) root method from Droid Life about a week ago. It was moto one click root.
I got the OTA this morning and figured what the hell, I can root it again after. Well after going through the OTA and rebooting I still have root. Verified that I am running 893, and still have Super User. All apps needing Root Access are still working.

I didn't do the forever root. I tried the update but it wouldn't install. I did the 1 click root from Pete.
Went back and unrooted, did a factory data reset. Still the update failed. I'm not having any problems
with connection, and I got a camera app that is great so I am back to root just like before.

ok so i took the OTA update without thinking about the apps i had frozen and that id lose root access until AFTER I pressed the button to start it...All my frozen apps are still frozen and i got the update, but now i cannot gain back root access with either p3 or psouza motorola one click root.
p3 will get some errors about superuser being installed and some filename ( cant remember it right now) right at the beginning stating it doe not have permission.
Im pretty sure ICS isnt that far off and i don't install custom mods root was really only to freeze bloatware (still frozen just cant unfreeze since i dont have root anymore) and to mod the tether file with sqleditor. The tether still seems to work too.
What options do i have to gain root back??

Thanks much in advance..

So, with the thought of having a proper camera functions, and no longer having to do the airplane mode toggle, I downloaded the update. I unrooted my phone after reading some posts about being able to re root with peters 1 click method. Well I unrooted with 1 click, applied the update, and then today I tried to re root. neither the 1 click or the link in post number 3 from page 1 worked. Should I do a factory restore on my phone and then try to root, with either methods or am I "attached to another object by an inclined plane wrapped helically around an axis"

thanks

also, AC forum software doesn't like me. I tried posting a new thread back when the seidio cases came out and it never let me, now while posting this it gave me a headache. just saying.

Heres an idea... check the Bionic Rooting, Roms and Hacks section at the top of the page....

:)

Ive done some digging just figured someone might have some insight. Just wondering if there is some "easy" steps/fix.

since the update went through even with apps frozen and all seems to be functioning properly im not super worried, but again if someones got any ideas (other than the obvious 2def ;) ) im all ears.

It looks like a lot of people are having success with the method here: http://forums.androidcentral.com/bi...5-updated-lost-root-1-click-root-working.html

Its a different 1-click than what you've used before, I believe. Do me a favor and let me know if you're going to try it out and how it works.

Well I rec'd the update this morning @ 1:00am Wasn't thinking logically as I pressed ok to download. I realized that as I am rooted there might be an issue! WELL as it turns out SuperUser went bye bye damit...HOWEVER on the positive side I previously did the tethering hack and it still works yay! Now Ill sit patiently waiting for ICS.

I did this yesterday with no change. Still no root access. Gets an access denied on the very first file it tries to modify with a permission denied issue. I will try again this morning just to get the file name.

Weirdest part is at the end of the script, unlike petes, it actually says the device should be rooted but is obviously not as sql editor and titanium backup cannot gain access.

I did pull the battery last night and have not tried to re-root using the above method so maybe the battery pull will work it out...doubt it but who the eff knows.

As mentioned all the frozen apps are still frozen and the tether hack still stuck, so aside from the fact that i cant unfreeze the apps (i froze them for a reason anyway ;) ). It might be a moot point unless ICS wont load once it hits.

Guess time will tell. Ill keep hacking at it and if I come up with a fix i will surely post.

Thanks for all the help 2Def.

OK yeah, keep me updated :)

And you're welcome.. My phone is fine, I've just been working at this nonstop to try and help people on here. Makes me sad to see folks with problems with their phones so I enjoy trying to fix em.

Yeah no love after a battery pull as suspected. Using the 1 click root from P3.

Right after it loads the daemon it get a cannot copy boomsh Permission denied error. Reboots the phone a couple time, and at the end says the phone is rooted but in fact it is not.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Make sure you are connecting the phone as USB Charge Only Mode and that under Development in Settings, Debug is checked.

I had a similar issue in attempting to root back to 886 yesterday when I was video taping a presentation on mobile security. I got the boomsh issue so I started over and figured out where I had gone wrong.

Yeah all those are set..usb only and debug...thing still fails..

Im going to try this once i can get access to the exploit.zip seems i have to wait for an admin of that board to approve my new account.. heres the link to what i will attempt once i can get the correct files.

Rooting Manually and Boomsh

Using the Link above I am able to gain root access until I reboot the device. And after the device is rebooted I cannot gain access again. I have to use the SuperOneClick to un-root the phone. Then I just run the zerg again to gain root access. Please let me know if anybody gets permanent root access using this method.

Hmm, my phone got de-rooted. Titanium now broke, and "Pete's Motorola Root Tools v1.06" fails to resolve this. (""ERROR: adb could not be granted root access via local.prop method"). Still digging ... :(

Edit: Zergling rush, FTW.
P3 Universal Root worked :) :

(Although SU then had to be updated and Titanium had to be uninstalled/reinstalled ... weird ... but seems to be working now!)
