I have rooted mine and I'm using a ROM and a custom kernel, battery life is astonishing. If you're not rooted and you own a nexus you truly are lost.

Obviously you have the freedom to do as you please with your device. But ppl don't understand the benefits, that's why they don't do it. When I say that my battery life has significantly increased since i rooted I'm not exaggerating. Same with performance. I'm certain that we can all use great battery life.I would say that is a bit far ... I don't root simply because it isn't needed for what I want to do with my phone. Not everyone wants to root and that is okay.

Well judging from this thread I can see ppl struggling with battery life. Absolutely. I will post a screen shot when the battery is close to dying or right before I plug it. As of now I'm at 39%, been unplugged since 7am and used LTE all day moderate to heavy with YouTube streaming and all.I get awesome battery life as is without being rooted. Do you have some screen caps to show us the big difference? Also I don't fall into that category. I have rooted many times before .. Just don't see the need to any more since Android has definitely evolved.

It's also a double edge sword. Sure you can get better battery life and performance with root and just making some minor changes to the kernel. But if those changes are incorrect, they can be just as detrimental to the battery. But ppl don't understand the benefits
Since I bought the phone I gradually went from 4:35 to 3:50 SOT and I have a feeling 6.0.1 has a lot to do with it.
Ever since updating to 6.0.1 I feel as though my battery drain is substantially worse. Same routine. Same activity. Anyone else experiencing this?

New apps: Google authenticator and Any.do.
Great you have improved battery life. In reality i don't think we should go through all that to get decent battery life our phones i really don't. I do think the issue with battery life something Google really need to address in Android N and once of the core issues of this is badly coded apps because of the fragmented Android systems.I've been having battery drain issues as well since the May update. I seem to have fixed it now. I did the following: deleted my already backed up photos, cleared the apps cache, turned off and deleted location history, went into wifi settings and removed the saved networks that I don't connect to (i.e. random coffee shops that I was in once), went into BT settings and removed the saved BT devices that I don't connect to (i.e. headphones that broke that I no longer use). This seems to have helped, as since I did these things, my phone seems to be awake mostly only when my screen is on or I'm listening to audio.
