I just got my One yesterday and this being my first contract phone (been on virgin mobile for 2 years) is the insurance worth it? I am already paying $80 a month and the extra $6.99 im iffy about.. (i have like 28 days to decide)

I always have insurance on my phones. It's just one thing less you have to worry about.
The best way to think of it is are you willing to pay full price for another phone if this one gets damaged beyond repair.
But also, what does it cover? If they have a bunch of restrictions on what they do cover, it would probably be best to look into somewhere else.

Do the math and see if it's worth it to you.

$6.99/mo x24 mo is $167.76
If you use the insurance I believe the deductible is $200. So you're spending $367.76 if you use the plan over 2 years and break your phone once.

When is the last time you needed to replace a phone due to loss or breakage?

It covers
Loss
Theft
Accidental Damage
Out-of-Warranty Malfunction

To me that sounds pretty decent, and it would be good peace of mind.

also to vase: I recently fell face first into a puddle and my phone was in my pocket and it broke it (I had no rice or anything :/ ) and i had it replaced since it was under warranty with virgin mobile. This was the only time I have ever broken my phone in the maybe 1.5-2.5 years of having phones.

Opinions vary about getting insurance on smartphones. This article might help with the decision. The No. 1 catch with ALL insurance is you don't earn anything on the premiums you pay (opposed to investing). What you DO get in return is peace of mind. Good luck.

Yes it's worth it and that's less than what I pay through Sprint but its better to pay a deductible to get the device replace instead of paying the full retail price.

I'm still coming out way ahead never having insurance. I've never lost a phone and the last time I broke a screen was in 2008 and I fixed it myself. It really depends on the person. For some people it could very well be worth it.

Most cases folks will be fine but the one time it does happen folks will be wishing they had their device insured.

My stance is that if you can afford to replace the device outright (or if you're OK with downgrading to a backup phone) then don't bother with insurance.

But if it's a heavy hit to you to have to eat a $600 phone then the insurance is well worth it.

I have a great track record, 5 years & over 40 cell phones, I never lost or damage to the point where it needs to be replaced.

No offense, but 40 cell phones in 5 years is crazy talk.

Re: $6.99 at&t insurance worth it?

I never buy insurance for anything I buy. I figure I'm thousands if not tens of thousands of dollars ahead by this point and if something happens I'll just pay out of pocket. I've had various phones for about 13 years now and never broken one of them. If there are issues from the factory then the warranty will cover that.

Baller.

Don't forget to add tax in when u think about this. Tax where I live in Washington is 21.5% it turns the $7 into $8.50. So its $204 over the 24 months of my plan. Plus $200 for a deductible for a grand total of $404 for one replacement cell phone. I can easily find a used cell phone on craigslist for cheaper. Also look at your track record if you have only needed to use the insurance 1 time over 5 years is paying for it worth it?

Does at&t's insurance cover theft, loss, accidental damage and mechanical or electrical issues (just won't turn on, etc)? If so, I would think it's worth it. Sprint's insurance s $11/mo now with a huge deductible so I'm going with Worth Avenue Group and crossing my fingers that I don't lose the phone or have any mechanical or electrical issues.

Another perk of the insurance (the reason I am seriously considering it) is the cancellation policy.

Cancellation Policy: Cancel coverage anytime and receive a prorated refund of unused premium.

what this tells me is i can cancel anytime and get the money back? or am i reading it wrong?

I believe that is prorated for the monthly charge, not from the total you've paid for insurance.
