$6.99 at&t insurance worth it?

Worth it if you are prone to getting your property lost/stolen.

Otherwise no. I use squaretrade in case my phone breaks. $88 ($3.66/mo) for 2 years and $99 deductable.

Does at&t's insurance cover theft, loss, accidental damage and mechanical or electrical issues (just won't turn on, etc)? If so, I would think it's worth it. Sprint's insurance s $11/mo now with a huge deductible so I'm going with Worth Avenue Group and crossing my fingers that I don't lose the phone or have any mechanical or electrical issues.

It covers all that. The loss piece is huge. But in 12 years of owning mobile phones i've never lost one.

are you recommending squaretrade xD? what i can tell if they cant fix the phone they send you a full refund for a new phone, but would that be the full price of the phone off contract or the $80 i paid on contract?

It would be the price off contract.

I went the Squaretrade route. It will be interesting to see going forward how they adjust their plans if phones continue to be designed like the one. I'm pretty sure they bank on being able to repair phones themselves, but I'm sure they'd have a devil of the time trying to fix a One.

Yeah I think I might use squaretrade as well. Thanks for all your help everybody!

I've lost a few phones of the years and always keep insurance on my phones. I don't keep a phone for more than a year, but if I did I would cancel the coverage after a year of ownership due to the lower resale of the phone on ebay/craigslist. But all new phone purchases get insurance.

I have. My samsung instinct. Dropped it in the snow and didn't realize it till later and it had continued snowing so... it was gone. Even back in '09 I paid $99 through sprint to get another one of those babies :/ But it was way cheaper than retail. I just went through Worth Ave this time around because I'm more worried about theft than manufacturer/electrical issues. I wish it covered loss and manufacturer/electrical issues too, but I'll take my risks. I think ensquared might but I could only find 2 reviews on their claims process (both were forum posts) when I was comparison shopping.

OP, I think you'll like squaretrade. They have amazing customer service.

Most insurance sends you a refurbished phone as a replacement. At $376 this is a rip off.

Nexus 4 at $299 is my insurance plan.

If you don feel like spending the extra money for insurance than I advice get a good old case and a screen protector and for the love of god don't drop it in the toilet.

Gotta love the silly anecdotal evidence:

"Well I have owned X phones and I've never had to use insurance!"

Or "I've never broken my phone before! So for that reason, I know the future and can foresee that I will never need insurance."

Tell that to the nearly 2 of every 5 people that does use insurance.

I think a plan with a $200 deductible is too much. There are other options for insurance that do not charge deductible. I would explore those options.

I cancelled my AT&T insurance and bought the SquareTrade AHD warranty. Its normally $125 but I had a 30% off code (max $30) so I paid $102.60 with taxes and it has a $99 deductible but I do believe the carriers deductible is higher like $150+. Over the course of 2 years you will pay $167.76+taxes. Its worth it to review options and ST is Accidental Hardware Damage.

The OP asked for feedback, those of us who don't believe in this sort of scam insurance gave our opinions. If you are accident prone, or expose your phone to dangerous situations regularly then insurance may be a good idea. But for most people I think it's unnecessary. Most consumer related websites advise against this sort of insurance as well. Further if you buy your phone on a credit card many cards will give you insurance for free with the purchase.

All android OEMs ship their phones with atleast a 1 year warranty. Although you would be without a phone for a few weeks, it is completely free.

Carrier insurance is only for people who are either accident prone or extremely paranoid. As for the issues above, if you have Sprint they don't apply to you.

most times yes. Squaretrade, if they find your phone cannot be repaired, will send you a check for the full price of a new phone (the price of the one you have on file with them)

The one BIG caveat is the HTC One is a tough smarthphone to repair so given that fact I would want some level of insurance to protect me, I don't feel like dropping $650 again 6 months from now.
