I rebooted after the 7.1.1 update. I also toggled the features off/on. Still no luck getting them to work.
Any ideas?

You do realize that it only triggers your ambient display or notifications correct?

I sent myself an SMS from my wife's phone to test. Still doesn't work. I do have ambient display on as well. It doesn't seem to work either.

The screen needs to be locked

BINGO! My phone wasn't locked. So, it works now.

That sucks though. Smart lock keeps my phone unlocked at home. So why would Google only allow these features when locked? Seems like an oversight to me.

I had the same issue. the following fixed it. Settings. Security. Screen Lock. Automatically lock, Immediately after sleep

OK, so I did an experiment. Smart Lock has no affect on the double tap or raise to wake. The feature works after the lock setting times out. Even if smart lock keeps the phone unlocked.
Hope that makes sense.

I'm still trying to figure out when it works and when it doesn't. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Can't figure out when and why.

I have my phone simply on swipe to unlock

I like this update. Hope to see more MOVES in the future.

I did start freaking out how hot my XL was getting with this update.

So far seems to be working pretty good on my phone.Double Tap wakes it , as well as Raise to Wake :)

I'll have to try uninstalling Gravity Screen and see what happens - ETA - it works - but ends up at lock screen - with Gravity Screen it goes right to desktop - I like that better.

Gravity was usually hit or miss. This works pretty well. I added swipe to open where I previously had no lock. Raise to wake then a swipe to open. A lot easier than fumbling for the power button on the side. Google is listening to customers!!! Bring on next year's Pixel!!

Did I discovered this correctly? These only work if you have a new notification, and will not wake your screen if you don't have a new notification.?

Nope, that's not it.

Frustrating, it works one moment, then I put the phone down and it doesn't work the next moment
