7.1.1 Double Tap and Lift to check not working

Mine seems to be very consistent. Either will work whether you have a notification or not

I'll have to try uninstalling Gravity Screen and see what happens - ETA - it works - but ends up at lock screen - with Gravity Screen it goes right to desktop - I like that better.

Thanks for mentioning that app. Since I likely will never get the 7.1.1 update due to being rooted, this looks like a good alternative. How is it on battery life?

Doesn't seem to work when I take it out of my holster

Neither work the double tap either ?
I'm curious have you rebooted after the installation was complete ?
That's the first thing I would do if I have an issue with something ,easy stuff first.

The double tap seems to work out of the holster but the raise to wake doesn't. Yes I rebooted.

Where do you find the new features? My phone says my security patch level is November 5, but I don't see any settings for tap/lift to wake. I have rebooted. Android version only says 7.1 though.

got a text, I let it sit 2 minutes, then took it out of my holster , then neither of the two methods worked to open the notification

The setting would be in Settings > Moves. But on 7.1.1
Sounds like you dont have the update yet if on 7.1

Does the double tap work on a Nexus 5X on 7.1.1 or is that a Pixel only feature? I can't get it to work. I made sure my screen was locked and also set it to lock immediately. I sent myself an email to test but no dice. The raise to wake works when I turn that on, but I don't like that much. I want the double tap :(

Me as well.
Wonderful feature.
More refined than the 3rd party apps I tried.

Okay, seems to sometimes work, seems to sometimes not. I'll have to continue to fiddle with it

I never felt it was an issue as far as battery life - I am not a heavy phone user so YMMV

Mine is working as advertised. I keep my device lock with a PIN but with imprint. I keep it locked at home also, nosey wife and kids. Pixel XL.

Both new moves work as expected. Because of the absence of them previously I hadn't even had ambient display turned on until now. Glad to be back in that boat (turned off colored light as it annoyed me) glad to have lift back as I've used it on countless moto phones and the Nexus 5x

This was the latest update for the pixel &pixel XL, not for any nexus devices.

Double tap and raise to wake functioning perfectly. Keep in mind double tap is just to see notifications, not to fully wake the device.

There has been a change since they first introduced this with the 5x and 6p that may be why some could think rise doesn't work consistently. It was an issue for some on those original phones even before the change.

There seems to be a natural tension between the rise and the feature that saves battery if the phone is at rest and not moved. So it could take a more abrupt rise motion to activate. I remember some people noting this with those original phones. Since then they've made some changes so that the battery savings would still be active while the phone was in your pocket. This seems to me likely to make the abrupt rise need to be even more abrupt. Try laying it face-down and picking up to look at the screen, which seemed to me to be more a more reliable way to trigger it.

And yes, rise to wake may be a bad name. It only activates a low power ambient display that lets you see the time and such.

If I'm reading a webpage, and the screen times out, I have difficulty using raise to wake to light it up again, putting it face down and flipping it over doesn't seem to work either, until it's sat for a while.
