720p vs 1080p in camcorder. Big difference?

Has anyone spent much time making videos with both if these settings? I'm wondering if your noticing much a difference between the two?

That's an awesome write up! Looks like 720 might be better for something like sports with it's 30 frames vs 1080's 24. The front facing camera did an amazing job as well.
