Yes! I have that too! As soon as I turn on the phone it stays dim for a few seconds before brightening up to normal levels.

I've notice since 8.1 in developer options when I set my phone to allow no more than 4 processes running the setting always bounces back to standard limit. Never had this issue in the past. This occurs either when I power my phone off or keep it running it always switches back on me

I think the way it could matter is that you had the widget on your phone out of the box - with 8.0 installed (if I remember correctly). With the Pixels it's coming to us through the 8.1 implementation, which is a totally different coding path.

All that said, I know this functionality CAN work for sure - I saw it myself yesterday on an event I'd had on the calendar for weeks. It was my testing of the 30 minute widow last night where I saw it not working at all. I wondered this morning if it had to do with calendar/account syncing so I checked that (and even forced a "sync now"), but syncing is working fine.

So what would make a weeks-old calendar event work and not a brand new one, I wonder?

The ambient display clock has suddenly gotten... smaller? And located further up on the screen? This just started today. Anyone else seeing it?

I'm not really Keen on it either. Would be nice to have a choice. Makes the phone look cheap for some reason lol , plus the eyes are aging
