How much storage space do you actually get on the 8gb Moto G(2014) to use for apps etc.? Is it enough to use as a daily runner with all of the apps you need?

For me? not at all. I know that lots of people can store stuff in the cloud now, pictures, music, videos etc, but you can't store apps in the cloud. And with no SD card and some apps taking multiple hundreds of megs, and the fact that even with an 8GB you'll have probably around 6GB or less available, you're working with super razor thin margins.

I have like maybe 15 or so games that I play all the time and that's a few gigs right there, plus if you cache songs so you can play offline later...

It is enough for me because there is a SD card, up to 32 GB's. Some of the apps can be put on the SD card as well( it depends on the developers). My G isn't app heavy, but I have a decent amount and my internal storage has about 4 GB's of unused space left. I put all of my music and podcasts and some apps on the SD card.
I don't game on a phone either! PC for me :)

Enough for me. Only apps I use are Android Central, Twitter, Clash of Clans, and Ever note. Every picture and song go on the SD card.

It's about 5.5gb of free space. You can move most of the installed apps to your sdcard and your media files as well.
