A better flashlight shortcut is needed

Swipe down once from the notification menu, press flashlight icon....not very difficult.

you say it isn't very difficult, and I feel that isn't the value judgment he was looking for. this is about the easiest way to get your flashlight working. If you're hanging on a rafter in an attic trying to see something, the chop gesture on a locked phone is easier than your description of looking at the screen and performing twice as many actions. When the phone is locked, the chop gesture has no action. In this way, Motorola is superior

Welcome to Android Central.

I wasn't judging the value of the feature. I presented an alternative and I said its not difficult because for me it's not and there are additional simple options such as using the Google Assistant. Of course anyone can up with a scenario where it might be difficult. I owned a Motorola and II can see where it's convenient, however I had it for more than two years and rarely used that method to turn on the flashlight. In this instance Motorola may be deemed superior by some people, however it's probably not a deal breaker in most cases. Everyone has different features that they have a preference for and not every phone is going to meet all expectations.

Agree with this.

The chop gesture would come in very handy. Hopefully it's something Google is considering adding.

I came over from the Motorola Droid Turbo 2. I understand this is a different company that provided different options for how to use its phones, but if you held your Turbo 1 or Turbo 2 phone, and did the "Karate Chop" motion, the flashlight would turn on. Do it again, and it turned off. No need to navigate a menu, turn it on, and navigate again to turn it off. It was really easy to use and I really made a big use of it.

Sadly, I don't see that option with the new Pixel 2/Pixel 2 XL. I wish it existed somehow. If you press the power button twice, the camera turns on, and I had that shortcut on the Turbo 2 as well. But no flashlight shortcut.
On my s25 ultra I just double click the power button and my flashlight turns on.
