A budget tablet that wouldn't be an embarrassing gift

Long story short, we take donate to a family charity and help fulfill christmas lists for kids in struggling families.

There's a budget limit of about $120 to $150 for the older kids.
Currently there's a deal on amazon for their new Fire HD 8.
I did some extra looking around, though, and found a ton of mixed-review pure-android devices for 150 and under.

For kids in middle school (11-13) having an *obviously* cheap product can be kind of embarrassing, and tablets are actually a pretty common request... So I was hoping to maybe get some insight or recommendations from people who are 'in the know'.

Try the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 7.0 (2016) it cost around $150 if not mistaken

My niece has a kindle fire tablet and loves the thing. If you are against that maybe one of the Samsung tab tablets. I think they'd be fine for someone in middle school and tend to run under your price range. Especially for Black Friday. I also have a friend who is not into tech and got a lg g tab which she loves.
