So today I decided to flash a new kernel to get better battery life than adryn's test 5 SV non-voodoo was giving me. I ended up with the force close loop from hell on several apps.

I was using before:
CWM Red (wasn't using voodoo)
Adrynalynes test 5 standard voltage kernel DL09
Adrynalynes supah clean .4 rom
Neon GT theme (from the guy on XDA, forgot his name)

I flashed:
Adrynalynes test 5 under voltage kernel

I lost CWM red, but kept root, and CWM green.

To limp home, I flashed back to stock DL09 kernel from green CWM, and did a factory reset/data wipe which finally managed to clear my force close problem. I used TiBu to get back my essentials.

My question. When I tried to load my backup, it still came up with the force close loop. Would the problem here be the kernel, because it kept giving me trouble after I flashed my kernel back, until I did my factory reset. I feel like I'm missing something here, and I would like to load my backup. Anyone got a clue why my backups continued to pull FC loop?

Edit: Following further experimentation it seems every time I load a new kernel or ROM I end up with the same slew of acore, twlauncher, and media FCing non stop. I'd really like to be able to load up a ROM again at some point. Anyone have any idea's what i've done to myself here? Stock kind of blows :-( (or should I say losing my backups kind of blows.).

Edit-Final: The end result is that my backups are bad, after I totally rebuilt my system I made a new back up, flashed a new rom and factory reset. Loaded my back up no issues. :-/ Today's lesson is copy your back ups to your computer or drop box them periodically.

any time you get that force close crap like that, a factory reset and clear cache usually fixes it. any time you flash a new rom you have to do a data wipe and clear cache. you shouldnt with a new kernel, but sometimes you just do. just in case you didnt know, the back ups you create through rom manager and cwm only back up your rom. they do NOT back up your kernel or your modem.

I see. Follow up question if you don't mind and can help, I'm pretty sure I backed up after loading supah clean rom, but i'm not entirely sure. If i loaded a backup over supah clean it wouldn't matter though right? And if I factory reset what's the point of loading my backup? When I load my back ups it goes into the force close. I should be clearing the dalvik cache right? or is there another one? I'll keep tinkering and see what I can do. Thanks for the input.

you should always data wipe and clear cache BEFORE flashing a new rom. you nandroid back up is a rom. it just happens to have all your settings and apps and such.

i think you should start with a fresh rom. load one on to your sd card. boot into recovery, clear and wipe, flash new rom. set up your phone the way you like it, do back up. any time you flash back to that backup clear and wipe FIRST. and there is only one cache that applies to this.

Thanks a million, I'll do it up and see what I can get for results. I think I'm gonna write an "essentials of flashing" thread LOL.

I'm not sure if this is really related but my youtube app in super clean 0.4 goes to a blank screen for a while then force closes, anyone know how to fix this?

Sent from my (adyrn test 5 undervolted) super cleaned DL09 fascinate using tapatalk

glad to help. let us know how it goes.

So as an addition to the whole thing is i'd really like to keep all of my text messages and what not, i'll have to keep my back up for that i'm guessing? Kind of irrelevant I guess since i'm gonna try to salvage it anyway. Would be good to know though. Is there a root app that will let me export my text and call records?

Edit: no fix for the force close with the factory reset, loaded up my backup after purging the heck out of everything and no such luck. Ugh. Any more ideas?

do a market search for back up sms and you will see plenty of apps to help you with that. i dont feel the need to backup my texts so i cant point you to a specific app. there is an app section in the forums, im sure you be able to find a good app there.

it sounds like you have a bad back up. it happens. not much you can do about that.

All 3 of the back ups I happen to still have do it though. Two of those have been loaded previously with success. I'm at a freakin loss. TiBu brought back my text messages from somewhere though, so i'm good for the moment I guess. Still wanna know what's wrong with my backups, i've reflashed CWM after going back to stock, and tried just about every combo of kernel and backup I can think of. Oh well, guess i'll just have to keep on trucking.

it could be something wrong with the filing system on your sd card. copy you sd card to your pc, then format your sd card. reflash cwm with odin. start over.

Could going from CWM red to CWM green screw up my SD card? I wasn't using the voodoo, I installed it when I was thinking about it. That shouldn't affect my SD card because voodoo only affects internal, and two because it doesn't do anything to the SD card, right?

I've backed up my totally rebuilt rom, so I guess I'll give it another shot and hope my latest back up isn't bad like the last three. Reformatting and reloading as we speak, will keep you posted.

I had a very similar problem this morning that took a few hours to get straightened out. I was trying to apply a mod that removes the time from your notification bar (I have no need for it there with beautiful widgets) and I couldn't get it to work for the life of me.

It was a zip that is supposed to be flashed in CWM. I'd flash, but it wouldn't change a thing. I unzipped the file and found it was just a different services.jar for the system/framework folder. Tried manually copying with root explorer. Didn't change. Tried pushing file with adb. Wouldn't change.

So I then started experimenting with different setups figuring it must be my theme/kernel/rom that was preventing the new file from doing anything. Mind you I made a backup before starting any of this. I disabled my lag fix and tried a non-voodoo kernel. No change. Went back to an old backup with no theme. No change. Flashed back to a DJ05 backup. No change. I finally gave up hope.

When I tried flashing back my update I had made just an hour or so before... FC loop of hell. Wiped data. Applied backup again. All apps requiring root would FC. Wiped data again and reflashed DL09 stock with Odin. Rerooted. Applied backup again. FC loop of hell. Since the older backups I tried were from quite some time back, I didn't want to lose anything I've done in the meantime. I just ended up wiping data again, flashing DL09 with Odin again, rerooting, and only using TiBu to restore as I had redone all my backups there as well in the beginning. Aside from having to set up my syncs again, everything else is back in place. I too deemed the CWM backup I made at the start was no good, both on my SD card and the copy I placed on my PC. :-\ What a mess.
