A few Pixel XL issues..

Install a third party camera app to use in place of the stock one!

Same issue again tonight so update hasn't fixed it
I'd send it back if the stock camera app is malfunctioning, and you have not installed any other camera apps.

Ran into minor issues my first day after doing a restore from another device. Decided to factory reset and start from scratch and and everything works smoothly and as intended.

None of those issues. Zero. Have you been playing with all the settings? If so, You may have to do a factory reset.

I have noticed the following issues, have you?

- Apps fail to load, specifically games.. simple ones like RETRY and slither.io

If I had to guess it happens maybe 1 out 20 times, which is still enough to be noticeable. Why is this happening? I don't loose any functions and its generally easy to solve by closing the app via Recent Apps and just restarting.

- Keyboard fails to swype

This happens pretty frequently and especially when swiping "you" , it will only register as an "u" or a single press..

- Outlook sporadically syncs a ton of emails

My phone will just start freaking out with Vibrations and as i look at the phone the notification bar shows tons of email notifications

- Voice Detection

I was having problems with the Pixel picking up my "OK Google" command, I retrained voice detection which seemed to immediately improve detection but every now and then i can stare at my phone and shout "OK Google" in every way possible and it'll just sit there and mock me

I will say, despite these minute issues, coming from a history of Samsung and Apple Devices, my pixel is hands down the most fluid device i've ever used. I hope my issues are user errors.

The only issue that I'm having is that Hangouts isn't syncing until you actively open a conversation, then everything syncs.

Im kind of surprised no one has mentioned this, but for these issues have you added these apps to the "Not optimized" list in battery settings? Doze works very well on these phones, almost too well, and if apps that require that occasional sync when you aren't using your phone arent in the "Not optimized" list, they will for sure experience problems like this.

I had to add hangouts and Nine (my outlook client) to "Not Optimized" in order for them to work correctly if my phone went into doze. Could be your problems too.

Doze shouldn't prevent apps from syncing data; it should prevent them syncing in a timely manner.

They should still check in and provide notifications, albeit infrequently.

Thanks for the advice, I've just added Outlook to the "Not Optimized" list, it freaks out about once every other day. I'll report back to let you know if this issue has gone away-

Exactly. I use outlook for work. Timely is key, especially when getting 10-15 emails an hour. If i pick up my phone after 2 hours of inactivity and 30 messages ding in, it has failed me.

Basically Hangouts and Nine, in my case, are the two apps on my phone that regardless of whether or not the phone is in Doze it needs to be checking and alerting me to new messages.

Anyone had issues with wifi connectivity? My wifi likes to connect/disconnect and lot. I do a soft reset and it solves the problem for a few hours but then goes right back to the issue. I've done a router reset to no avail, and my home router is never more than 20ft away. iPad and laptop have no issues.

I have a couple of problems too, though I don't consider them deal breakers - but number 2 in my list is the worst.

1) "Ok Google" - not. It will plain ignore me even when I'm yelling at it. I've noticed this occurs when the phone hasn't been used for a bit. It's like Assistant has gone to sleep.

2) Why won't you understand me Google Assistant? My phone is set to UK English and I've checked that's the language Assistant is using. I don't have a strong - or indeed really any - regional accent. Classic middle-England standard English, Received Pronunciation. And yet.. Assistant gets it wrong more often than right. And once it's decided what it's hearing, you can repeat it a million times, saying it ever more clearly and slowly and it won't change from its first decision. It's borderline awful and a thousand times worse than Amazon Echo (so I'd never buy Google Home frankly). This one drives me crazy. I must have tried 50 times (out of sheer stubborness to get it to recognise the word "coil" today. And failed.

3. Downloaded some new Notification sounds. Put them in Notifications folder. I can select them from Messenger and WhatsApp as the notification sound. It uses the chosen sound once or twice and then reverts back to a built-in sound (usually "Strum" for some reason). This one Google are looking into (and how cool is the built-in phone support?? :))

Google now and assistant have always recognised my voice with Yorkshire accent remarkably well.

I do wish there was an expanded version of the 'ok Google' voice recognition where you could repeat various words so that Google now and assistant could do an even better job of recognising your voice

So far my main issue has been connectivity. My wifi is spotty so not surprised that is off and on but
this phone is by far the worst I have ever had for keeping both the wifi connection and the 4g/lte. Verizon did some mucking about last night and agreed it wasn't connecting properly. They reset it remotely and so far that has helped. I don't know if this is just my phone or a Pixel Xl issue. But it is a pain. Even given the off/on of my wifi, and the occasional hiccups in 4g service, I never had whole days where I couldn't get on either and I have had a couple of those with this phone.

Might be a pixel issue. I've noticed that my XL doesn't get as strong of signal in places, or switches to 3g more often than my Z Force did.

Since performing the "fix" this issue has not occurred.

Thanks again.

I haven't had the issue with Google Assistant that you have, but I could imagine that would be beyond frustrating. I did notice that Google Now on non Pixel devices works very similarly with its contextual search. My girlfriend showed me on Her S7 that it does almost the same thing it just doesn't represent it in a conversation. But it's new and the Pixel is new, so I expect some hiccups.

Did you get another Pixel?

I did not. I still have the iPhone 7. It is running like a champ. No complaints. I still like the idea of the Pixel though. I thought it was a great smartphone. Just some issues. But I believe they will be addressed.

Pretty sure I'm running back to Android. I'm impatiently waiting on the Pixel to come back in stock.
