A few questions about bricking before I root

Alright, so I just got the GS4 on Verizon. I don't want to mess around with different Roms or anything until I upgrade to a new phone in 2 years, and I want Root access to freeze some bloatware, free tethering, etc. I'm using this tutorial [GUIDE] Root for Verizon Galaxy S4 ***VRUAME7 Build Only!*** - xda-developers
What should I do directly after rooting besides disabling OTA updates to prevent bricking?

I would make a nandroid backup just incase something goes wrong. I would also download the stock rom so if anything goes wrong you can fix it quickly. Let me know if you have anymore questions.
