So, a friend of mine is planning on getting Straight Talk - and I was wondering if the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact will work properly on ST, just pop the ST SIM in and go? She was planning on getting it from Amazon, since that's the cheapest place. Additionally, there's two different ones on Amazon: Amazon.com: Sony Xperia Z3 Compact D5833 Unlocked Smartphone - LTE 700 / 850 / 900 / 1800 / 2100 / 2600 - D5833 - International Version (White) - No Warranty: Cell Phones & Accessories and http://www.amazon.com/COMPACT-D5803...ag=hawk-future-20&ascsubtag=UUacUvbUpU4425956 - which one does she need for 3G support on ST? And one other thing, since the Z3c is nanoSIM - do I need a scissors or something to get the ST SIM to work? Also, when on ST do they just give you one SIM and that gives you access to all the GSM bands they haves deals with the carriers for?

You will have to choose which gsm carrier you will want to use, at&t or T-Mobile, check their coverage maps for the best coverage in your area, which for me is at&t. Whichever Sim you purchase, your service will run on that carriers towers. As for Sim card sizes, I am on straight talks at&t Sim. They have 3 sizes, regular, micro and nano. It is possible to cut down a micro or regular sim card to work. After activating your Sim card, you will have to set the APN settings in the phone in order for it to connect to the data network and to enable MMS.

Ah, thanks for all the info. T-Mobile pretty much doesn't exist up here - so it'll be AT&T. Do you know of a tutorial or something for configuring the APN settings? Or, should I just ask over on XDA?

Can look on XDA, android central, and straight talks website, but here are the APNs that I'm using, they work for my son, my girlfriend and I..

I apologize if they're not in order, but there they are..

Also another thing, after you set and save the APN settings, you will have to reboot your phone, power down then back on for them to become active..

Okay, thanks guys!

I thought I heard somewhere that you can pop the SIM in, factory reset, boot-up and it's all ready to go, is that true?

It may be true now, but every Sim card I've purchased so far I've had to manually set up the APN settings.. idk, only way to find out is when you pop one in your phone..

Okay, sounds good.

Does anyone know if ST uses "1700 (Band IV)" when using their AT&T bands SIM? Since, that's the only relevant different between a Z3c 833 and 803 - minus LTE, but that's irrelevant since ST tops out at 3G.

I'm not sure about the bands, but straight talk does have LTE, I have LTE on my nexus 5 with their service..

Oh, okay - thanks for that info. I just had her get the US/EU variant with LTE, so she should be good.
