A Few S-Health Issues Bugging Me

A few S-Health items have been bugging me. Putting them out there in case there's a solution to any of them:

1) Step count on watch never coincides with step count on phone (Galaxy S9+). I tend to run in the morning. I get up, slap my watch on, get prepped, then hit the pavement. The phone is never touched. After returning I see that my run has synced with the phone with correct distance and time but often a large disparity in step count (phone always higher yet is never moved). Both measured in S-Health. As best I can tell, my S-Health profile is the same between devices in terms of height and weight. What's the deal?

2) Elevation is not tracked during run. When reviewing my runs in S-Health on the phone, the elevation tab is grayed out. I have to think that run elevation can easily be tracked by GPS (as with my old Garmin) not altimeter. Yet my route is clearly plotted on the map but no elevation details are available other than a beginning and ending values. Very peculiar. Does anyone get a plot of elevation changes?

3) I like to run while listening to Spotify and sometimes use the verbal notifications on the watch that report distance, time, and pace every mile. After a voice notification occurs, the music control focus is taken off of Spotify and placed onto the watch's music player. I skip to the next song via the controls on my bluetooth headset and Spotify stops and the watch's player starts. My work-arounds are either to disable all voice notifications or to set the double-home press to open Spotify then try to remember to execute that after every voice notification so I retain Spotify skip functionality from my headset without worrying about where the watch's focus is. Not terrible but not ideal.

I have never had a watch and phone match step counts. In fact my LG V30 and LG V40 didn't even match. The issue comes if they are way off. My fitbit would always measure a bit less (one hundred steps) less than my V30. The Fitbit had a method to measure your stride and enter it to improve accuracy. I did that and it got worse. LOL.. With my V40 it varies every time but was less than both. Remember most phones measure vibration and stride. You can add steps by just shaking them. I don't believe a fitness watch will do that (never tried but I am going to now.. Ha). When I first got the Galaxy Watch it was consistently about a 16th of a mile less than my fitbit but pretty close to my phone. I have been able to rest it since having my PE blood clot.. I hope to start walking again as soon as it warms up.

What I found the hardest to understand with the post is that the OP said the phone was never touched before or during the run, so unlike when I was trying to get my phone to pick up the steps my watch was missing, I am not sure if the phone was showing steps from the watch or the phone.

You should be getting elevation on your runs - see pics of one of my runs. I don't know why you aren't. I know that's not very helpful, but I don't know the reason why.
Couple of things to check:

Obviously check location is on in settings and set it to GPS and wireless. Also, before you go for your run, choose run as exercise and BEFORE you press 'start running', scroll down with the bezel and select high accuracy.

Tell us how you get on.

Also check you've got this version of Alti -Barometer (on phone go to wear app/settings/apps/alti-barometer).

Hey, thanks for the image. I checked my phone for this extra information. I do see the elevation when I did "walking" yesterday for dancing, but today I did "other" which did not ask at all if I were stopping, but no elevation was listed with "other workout." The watch itself shows elevation with "hiking." I guess when I am cross country skiing I will use hiking.

I did not have this turned on. The elevation that it is showing is not correct. The manual calibration is grayed out.
To force an automatic calibration, hit the refresh icon at 6 o'clock. If it is still out scroll right two screens and press CHANGE to go to the menu to enter manually.

I had it on auto refresh. So, I turned that off and I was able to calibrate. I turned it back to auto refresh. I set it at 4,800 feet. Auto refresh put it at 4,778. Should I leave it on auto refresh?

Yeah, that's what I do and it has stayed pretty close. Just keep an eye on it now and then.

I am not sure I turned auto refresh back on but I tapped on the little refresh button on the watch and it went back to 4,000 feet. Ugh ... I fixed it again. I don't know if I want to tap it again to test it, yikes.

Lol! I wouldn't get too hung up on it. The main thing is that it's able to detect elevation gains and falls when it comes to your workouts. If it thinks it's 4000ft, so be it. I have mine set in metres and it reads 66m which is about 20m less than reality. Initially, before I calibrated it for the first time, it thought I was about 100m underwater, lol.
If you manually calibrate now and then and otherwise leave it on Auto, it might get closer to the mark given time, anyway.

You're right. It does move around quite a bit.

Since the latest update which outlined assessing the heart rate monitor issues (which I never experienced).

I have been getting a calorie readings wayy higher than it should be, see attachment.

It's been 600-750 odd for a 20 minute run. Before the update is was fairly typical with what you expect.

Anyone else had this issue ? Annoying that it's only happened after the update.

Also have issues with elevation if I forget to reset the altimeter.

I know this is an old post - but hoping for any suggestions. I'm having a similar problem with my ascent/descent / elevation not showing data. I have the pre-installed Altimeter app on my Galaxy Watch 46mm. GPS (high accuracy) is ON. I refreshed the Altimeter app just prior to going for a walk...no luck. I've read elsewhere to try using "hiking" as the exercise - still no luck. It's really bugging me as I do quite a bit of ascending and descending during and would really like this data to show. What's odd is the graph shows elevation? Even more odd - I'm at sea level, so I'm not sure why it shows -31 to -49 feet in the graph. When I refreshed the Altimeter, it showed 3 feet.
