So Samsung pushes out a galaxy tablet (very sweet)...and the new phone (again very sweet)...

Then Gingerbread apparently is going to be pushed to a dev phone which doesn't mean much for us mainstreamers but interesting.

Regardless of what VZW says, we all know there appears to be radio issue with the phone that hopefully probably can be fixed with a software update...that would be the GPS / Sidetone issue.

Is it me or does anyone else think they would push to get Froyo out to us ... Yes I know VZW has the final say, but I would think we would hear more by now...

Sux being at the mercy of the big boys......

I wish we knew where the hold up was. Is it Samsung, or does Verizon have have it and is slow to add all their changes to it? No one wants to commit to a date because they will look bad when they don't meet it, but what looks worse: not having an update, or being late on one. They even have accessories that will only work with 2.2, and the phone has been out for over a month now.

I'm still happy with the phone. I don't experience much of the sidetone issue. I just want the GPS fixed. I'd be happy if they fixed those two issues, and then wait another month or two, skip Froyo and get Gingerbread.

the DI01 OTA update fixed the GPS on my phone, oddly enough.

If you are rooted/debinged/debloated/etc there is an unsigned version available thru CWM which is what I used and it works great.

Not to be sarcastic, but the reality is that we already bought the phone and sold our souls for the next two years. I honestly don't think updating existing phones to a new OS is a high priority at all. Sure, they'll do it, but no one's looking at the calendar each day saying "we really have to get this out by X date to keep customers happy". Clearly by how bloated the stock phone is, and the horrible effects that has on things like performance and battery life, customer satisfaction with the user experience isn't important.

That said, the phone is easy to root and flash with new roms, so the hacking community is your best bet for usable updates/upgrades. My phone is running so well with JT's Super Clean rom, there's no way I'll go back to a Verizon bloated version just to get 2.2. I'll happily wait the few weeks it'll take to get a cleaned version to flash.

Just my 2C...
