A myriad of issues- Wifi connectivity, USB Debugging and more.

So my Nexus 7 (2012) hasn't been able to connect to wifi for some time. It gets stuck in a loop of "Connecting-authenticating-Saved" for everything I've tried. Four different networks with different security settings. So I decided to factory reset it, hoping I'd be able to connect. BAD MOVE. Now, I'm required to log into the wifi (which I obviously can't) before I use my tablet. So the logical solution is to roll back to a version that works. 4.4.4 Worked great for me, so I decided to go back to that. However, I didn't enable USB Debugging (It was supposed to be a simple factory reset... I've done it before to fix this issue and it worked.) so I'm not able to connect to my computer to get rolled back. I'm screwed, aren't I? This is unfortunately my first time even really messing with anything beyond wiping the cache, and I'm way in over my head. Is there any way for me to bypass the setup screen for 5.1.1?

Basically, Can't connect to computer to roll back, nor can I connect to wifi to log in to change settings to be able to roll back. Do I have a nice fancy paperweight?:'(

Ok... first off, I don't own a Nexus but I'll try to help anyways. Your post is a little confusing, so I have to ask... does the tablet still have an OS loaded on it at the moment... or is it stuck somewhere with no OS?

When you factory reset the tablet, it should have taken the tablet back to how it came out of the box, and everything (data), should have been wiped from the tablet... including wifi information. You should have also had to go through the set up wizard all over again. Did you have to go through setup? Is this a corporate tablet with any special software installed on it?

Re: A myriad of issues- Wifi connectivity, USB Debugging and more.

Has an OS (5.1.1). All wifi info was wiped. I'm currently stuck in the setup because my tablet is unable to connect to wifi. You cannot skip connecting to Wifi during the setup. Basically my issue is that the tablet locks you out if you can't connect to wifi during setup, and my issue with the tablet is not being able to connect to wifi, which is what I was originally trying to fix. The solution is to enable USB debugging and rollback to 4.4.4, however because I cannot get past the setup because of the wifi issue, I cannot enable USB debugging.

Re: A myriad of issues- Wifi connectivity, USB Debugging and more.

Is it possible to swipe down the status bar and access the parameters from there?

Did some reading on the Nexus 7 and apparently some people say they have the skip option while others say there isn't any... regarding wifi setup. Not having a skip option has to be one of the stupidest Google things I've ever heard of!

Some people say tapping on the four corners might bypass the wifi setup page. This is a Motorola thread, but the idea is the same... How to Bypass the Activation Screen | Motorola Droid 3

Others say they made their tablet connect to a printer wifi. Also, some have recommended tethering your phone or laptop so the tablet can connect to them. Some say to visit McDonalds or Starbucks and connect to their free wifi. One person said he turned off MAC filtering on his router at home.

One person entered the MAC address of his tablet...
My problem is/was:
a) I can only get the mac addr by going through the set-up process.
b) The set-up process requires a wifi connection.
c) I can't get a wifi connection without knowing the mac addr because my modem only allows specific mac addr's to connect.

So I:
1) Got the tablet to connect to you router/modem by naming the SSID specifically and specifying the password.
2) Loggin onto the modem I could then see the mac addr of the "unauthorised" connection.
3) Add that mac addr to the allowed mac addr list.
4) Done!

Sorry, I assumed Nexus products would work like Samsungs, but apparently I was wrong. I'm not sure what else to recommend other than trying to find a free wifi to connect to... or the rest of the above suggestions. There are a ton of hits on Google where people have had the exact same problem you have. I can't post all the results here, so you might want to keep searching Google for more help.

EDIT... When you're on the wifi page in setup, does it show you all the wifi networks available? Are there any open wifi networks showing? If you connect to an open network, then you should be able to continue past the wifi page and skip the Google sign in.
