Usually an update means more restrictions to the "user" rather than what is their reasoning behind the implementation.

(I learnt this home truth with iOS back in the old days where you would need to take a Blob backup of your current iOS if a jailbreak became available, and so Google just wants to keep restrictions in place.

For example and generally speaking. If you install anything outside of the G.P.S. (PlayStore) than "Play Protect is 100% rubbish than its normal 99% rubbish.

Look, unless you have root access, and even then it's still very unlikely to install something as hectic as trojan .exe file that damages the way a windows OS would.

Personally I havent updated my SM-G988B S20 Ultra 5g for as long as i can remember in any way, due to liking things the way they are, and quite frankly I have a device EXTREMELY Debloated, and still pass Strong integrity.

But Why? Because there is always an app that will give you the shits no matter how minor or minimal the use of it is, as some FOSS Apps just don't cut it at the moment.

its just about being weary about where we obtain our desired installs, and the best policy is to use FOSS OR FLOSS Apps via F-Droid/ Droidify etc...

We pay a great deal for convenience, thats how they get you e.g. Banking apps, Netflix, FB,......

The PlayStore is a HUGE compiled piece of surveillance, trackers, assessments on users devices, integrity, the works.

So, lf you are prompted to "update anything Google orientated, expect some surprises, modifications/ changes to your system that may need to be restructured to work again in the same fashion as it once was.

One last thing.

To put measures in place, do the following.

1, About phone>>Build No click x6>> Dev options and disable automatic update.

2, Hold down GSF, PlayStore, and top right dots, uninstall updates.

3, Disallow system Changes.
