It lights it up briefly to notify you , the double tap is a good solution not sure why you don't like it ? The reason for double tap so you don't get accidental touches compared to one touch wake up"missing edge lighting..."
I mispoke, the edge lighting can be defined/selected but it does NOT affect the screen saver.

No it does not. AOD is not enabled on the A15.
The edge lighting selections are demo'd when you select one, but the screen saver does not show it.
