I have a rooted 2 week old hero cdma (not a sprint) with 2.1 update 1. so far the phone has been working ok but you can tell that the hardware is a little lacking. I would like to be able to install apps to sd card but I like the UI of the hero. From what ive been reading i would need to flash a new rom to get this to work but from the best i can tell this would change the UI and look of the phone. Is there any way to get a2sd working without changing the way the UI works? Also is there a lot of difference between a sd card that is a 2 and one that is a 6? Is it worth buying a new card?

thanks for any help

phone is cdma

provider = celluar south

hardware version= 0002

You need a Froyo ROM to use the apps2sd functionality. I thought I saw a Sense-based one on XDA, I'll check.

Thanks for that. So i guess senses is the UI? if its based on senses it should look the same? thanks.

Yes the Hero's UI is called HTC Sense. I haven't flashed any Sense ROMs yet, I prefer the vanilla Android, but I may flash this later. Doubt I'll use it daily, as the camera appears to not work.

App2sd means "apps 2 sd". In Froyo (2.2), this functionality was added so that apps could be stored on the SD Card. You will still have a portion of the app stored on the phone for legaility purposes, but for the most part you will see an increase in internal memory (which is the point).

Prior to Froyo, app2sd was added to ROMs in the form of a script that forced the OS to move apps to an EXT partition. Most Developers were including it in the 1.5 and 2.1 ROMs by default and provided the end user with instructions on how to activate it.

Here is a thread with a how-to and good explanation: [Script][A2SD] Darktremor Apps2SD 2.7.5.3 Beta 03a (01/25/2011) - xda-developers
