News Absolutely game-changing Google Maps update will cut down on wrong turns

this does seem like a nice update. i often miss turns and get the update AFTER i have missed it. fingers crossed this really does help.

I wonder if it will be dependent upon live cloud assistance, or if it will mean more detailed and larger sized map files (for offline maps/navigation, for example).

I half expected the article to explain that it was going to start overlaying synced in google streetview pictures of routes, lanes and intersections.

Surely a driver would do better to pay attention to road signs for guidance on which lane they should be in?

I find device assisted navigation when driving in complex unfamiliar and busy road/highway situations can be pretty smooth, if theres is someone sitting in the passenger seat to operate the device as part of a navigator role, that person half heads down and half heads up while the driver remains only heads up. Lots of times nowadays, I think driver only situations get themselves into distracted scenarios with their hands free navigation. Hopefully, added lane indicator assistance will help for faster driver processing and therefore less distraction.

Not at all especially if you have the voice option turned on. No need to even look at the screen. Maps will tell you verbally for instance to be in the 2 right lanes. Extremely helpful.

I have experienced lots of cases where other drivers are in the wrong lane because they do not pay attention to the road signs. I am guessing that is to a greater or lesser degree to their sat=nav getting it wrong.
