Have you tried the Scan option in gdrive?
No I haven't . . . ever used Gdrive, that I know of. Err, or at least not intentionally! 😄
Thanks for the suggestion. 😉
@winmod21 try PhotoScan, which is from Google. It works pretty well, and can reduce or eliminate the glare that can occur if you try to take a regular pic of an old photo. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.photos.scanner&hl=en_US&gl=US
Thanks @methodman89 & @B. Diddy ! Will look into both. 😉

I'll 2nd PhotoScan, it works great for me!
While trying those suggestions, with many boxes and drawers of slides + many boxes and drawers of old prints, we're also thinking of trying the:
Epson Perfection V600 Color Photo, Image, Film, Negative & Document Scanner

. . has anyone here used one, or a similar photo scanner?

Well that GDrive is pretty cool ! Why didn't I ever try that before?! Thanks again for the suggestion!
Did some test scans on 'Auto Calibrate', where GDrive takes the scan automatically when it decides it's ready. There's lots of room for improvement, but they're definitely better than just taking a pic of an old photo print ! . . . though I'll have to practice a lot more.

Btw, how do you upload photos from GDrive to a website like this? Or can you?
I tried the Ctrl + C and Ctrl + V, and the Ctrl + C + V . . . but they all pasted the .pdf link, that when clicked on (by me), I couldn't tell if everyone else would be gaining access to my signed-in GDrive !?!? I guess I'm runnin' behind the times — on some of this stuff.

The problem with the Scan function of Google Drive is that it creates a PDF, not a JPG. A PDF will not be as high quality of an image as a JPG, and many sites will only accept image files like JPG and PNG (when posting an image), not PDF.

This is another advantage of PhotoScan, because those photos automatically get saved to your Google Photos, and are therefore more easily located when you want to post the image to a site.

That's good to know. 👍 Yeah I didn't see any obvious way to upload the .pdf file. Nor did I know that the image quality of .pdf's —are not of as high in quality as JPG's. So thanks again for the heads'up. ;) I've dwnld'd it, and will try some test scans.

@B. Diddy , @jhilker , @Kizzy Catwoman . . .

Have so far only been able to scan one photo, for some reason, as PhotoScan keeps asking me to "move the circle over the four dots" . . but the circle won't move, or will only move to the first dot. 🤔

. . and when I try to attach the one JPG photo file, AC says "The uploaded file is too large". 😕
Even though it's 2.2 MP smaller than the last JPG pic I dwnl'd yesterday (with the 2 dogs & red plaid shirt). . . So, I'm doin' a lot of this  lately. ;)

'Sage' on point, above Grand Ronde River
Sage Grand Ronde2.jpg

. . . that's weird, I went back to GPhotos and barely (and I mean barely!) moved the crop lines inward, but the JPG file size dropped from 4.96 MB down to 1.23 MB !
What's up with that ?!

When it asks you to move the circle over the 4 dots, you need to move the entire phone such that the central circle is on top of each dot in sequence. It's basically taking 4 shots of the same pic (from the 4 different corners of the pic), and then combining those shots into a single pic. This is how it can eliminate glare.

These forums have a photo size limit for attachment -- I think it's 5 MB, although @Bla1ze can clarify. The resolution of a photo doesn't necessarily correlate with the file size -- that has more to do with the amount of detail that's in the shot.

Thanks for the explain ! ;) I was trying to drag the circle to the dots — cuz there was an arrow at the circle pointing at the dot — so I thought that's what I was supposed to do !

So with the pic I posted above, I cropped it, ever so slightly, in GPhotos, then dwnl'd it from GPhotos to computer. Is there a better way to reduce the size, and post to a site?

Snapseed (which is from Google and is free on the Play Store) has an option to resize a photo (along with a lot of other editing options).

Here's how to resize a photo on a Windows PC or Mac: https://www.xda-developers.com/how-to-resize-an-image/

If you have a Chromebook, it's easy to resize a photo using the ChromeOS Gallery app.
Thanks again, I sup'pose I should say: Thanks continuously, @B. Diddy !;-) And for the links too !;-)
I'm aware of the Windows & Photos, &c, resizing methods; we started with Windows 3.0 in 1990.

But with GPhotos, there's an 'Edit' icon > then a 'Crop' icon > then these choices:
Free
Original
16:9
9:16
5:4
4:5
4:3
3:4
3:2
2:3
Square . . . as well as the option to set the —⚪— corners.

^
. . Have you (or anyone) used any of the abv ^ listed 'crop' aspect ratio's for scanning photos❓

. . . though as mentioned abv, I just scooched the corners in ever so slightly— on the pic of 'Sage' (up abv)—thereby dropping the 4.96 MB down to 1.23 MB. And left the 'Quality' the same.
Then I did the same corner-reset/crop-thing on these two as well . .

'Blue' on point, Grand Ronde River
Blue Grand Ronde1.jpg

'Grouse' Grand Ronde River

Thanks again !;-)
