Acceptable and realistic battery life

According to HTC they state that the HTC 10 can get up to 48 hours of battery life, of course with the following * comment:

Battery life may vary based on cellular network, location, signal strength, feature configurations, phone usage, and many other factors. Actual results may vary.

My question is, what is real life acceptable battery life to most people? I currently have the SGS7e and I am getting 24+ hours out of it with around 4 hrs of SOT, which is great but in all honesty if I take the phone off charge at 6am and have enough batter to last me to around 11pm at night that's sufficient since I always charge whilst sleeping.

I can understand that peoples circumstances are different and there might be the odd time when you need that little more out of the battery.

So, if the HTC 10 can provide 18-20 hours or real life battery time is that sufficient or will it be seen as a negative compared to the SGS7e, for example?

Thoughts and comments welcome :)

To most people, acceptable life is at least a full day's work.

To most cellphones, acceptable life is around 4-6 hours, depending on how the phone is used. (My Note 3, not known for long time between charges, can get 48 hours if it sits on the desk not being used. Constantly being on the phone with the screen at full brightness gets around 3-4 hours depending on cellular strength [the weaker the signal, the more battery is used].)

There's not going to be an "average" battery life for any phone. It does depend on cellular signal strength, features being used, usage, screen brightness and a few other things. With normal usage, and a weak cellular signal sometimes (you're very lucky if you have a strong signal 24/7) 100% to 40% charge (which is as low as you should allow it to go) can vary from a couple of hours to a couple of days.

Last full day in heavy usage until I go to bed. My iPhone 6s Plus does this, S7 edge almost did it, 6P to a lesser extent. So if it can beat the S7 edge which has a larger battery then it will be awesome. Let's see may be with all the HTC optimization it may do it, but generally I'm not the one turning off features etc. I like to use my phone as its meant to be and not dumb it down by turning off sync, features etc.

I'll be very interested when reports start coming in from the people that actually have the HTC 10 on how the battery life is.

I'd roughly estimate around a day's worth of use.

3000mAh + 1440p is a combo that usually delivers above-average battery life.

Though I'd expect the HTC 10 to deliver slightly better battery life than others with the same battery capacity and display resolution due to some software optimization.

Remember, the One M8 did last quite long on a "measly" 2600mAh battery, so it can be done. Just don't expect 2 days' worth of battery unless you're a really light user.

Plus, QC 3.0 is on-board, so plugging it in for 30 minutes should give you roughly a day's worth of use. It's nifty to have and I still think it should be a compliment to good battery life rather than a substitute for it.

My M8 would vary, but I could often manage around 16-18 hours on a full charge, so not bad for a phone that is 2+ years old now.

You say, 'Dumb it Down', most would say that turning off Samsung's bloatware gets the phone running as intended by Google...Milk Music, S Voice, S Health, Hancom Office 2014?...no thanks. Google didn't ship Android with any of those...so yeah, I turn them off so my phone run's as it was meant to be, not as Samsung's profit margin's (ie Paid bloatware apps) forced it to be.

I'm looking forward to a lighter touch as HTC will do and leaving useless bloat I didn't ask for behind.

A full day's use. My Galaxy S5 and 2014 Moto X are usually dead by early afternoon. I would buy the M10 if it actually delivers a full day.

I can certainly agree about disabling or removing bloatware that the carriers put on our phones. Not really sure just how much battery time that buys, but I am sure that every little bit helps. Personally, I'd rather have the choice of just what I want on my phone and I find it aggravating that we can't uninstall these carrier apps. At the very least if they allowed this we could simply uninstall them if we don't want them.

HTC 10 certainly looks like it will be on the lighter side and that has to be a good thing. This is the first time I am buying an unlocked phone and not going through a carrier so that will be a plus :)

Obviously we need to wait and hear from the people that have these phones in hand right now, once the embargo has been lifted. That said, if I was able to get 16-18 hours out of my M8 I would like to think the HTC 10 can at least match that.

We will also need to remember that the first few days are the worst. I've mentioned that on the Samsung forums as well.

Some early reviews are coming in and the initial impression on battery life doesn't seem very good as promised. I know it's still early days but if I recall correctly M8 had glowing reviews on battery even in early days.

I had the M8, the M9 and have tested the 10 extensively. Battery life on the 10 blows the others out of the water; no overheating like you had on the two 'M' devices, and with QC it's even faster to recover than the M9, which also supports QC. That's real world use, more than two months with the device.

That is good to hear.

Do you work for HTC? If I recall correctly M8 could easily last more than 5hr SoT. So how much screen and overall time do you get on 10?

Also, are you able to share a Gsam screen shot or native battery screen shot?

I would like to see some validation as well. Not as a "I don't believe you" but more as a way to reassure myself I am not jumping into a bad battery situation. When the one reviewer said its close to the S6; I heard nothing but bad things about that battery lifespan.

The HTC 10 might be able to go two full days if you don't use it. But I've been using it. It does not last two full days.
