Access to USB flash drive?

I can plug an OTG cable into my Moto X (Android 4.4.4) so as to access USB flash drives; well, drives smaller than 4GB, anyway. On the Settings > Storage page of the Moto X, there's an option to 'Mount USB storage'; the option becomes enabled when a (compatible?) USB flash drive is connected.

I don't see the 'Mount USB storage' option on my (non-rooted) Nexus 7 (2013) (Android 4.4.4).

Is access to USB flash drives a feature of only certain devices?

Just plug in the flash drive and access it through ES File Explorer's "Local" menu.

Use the Nexus Media Importer app....it will connect you.

Thanks for the information. The Google Play description for this app mentions it's compatible not only with the Nexus 7, but also with the Moto X; however, my Moto X doesn't require this app. Why?

Thanks, I'll try that. So ES File Explorer can access USB flash drives on the Nexus 7--but Astro File Manager can't?
