Accident protection plan?

I would like to know if I should stay with the Sprint accident protection plan or switch to the Best Buy Black Tie protection plan? I have a few days left to make a decision. The reason I like the Sprint plan is they will replace a lost phone for a deductible but the Best Buy plan does not have any coverage for a lost phone but I do like the idea of no deductible for any damages. I just know that in the past the Best Buy plan makes you jump thru hoops to get the coverage?

I'd like to help, but I don't know much about the Best Buy plan. How does it work? How much does it cost?

Price depends on the phone, covers drops, spillage, battery, home charger, it also offers good maintenance rewards which is a program where if the protection isn't used within the 2 year term they will give you a portion of the plan back at the end of the plan. No deductible, you will get a remanufactered phone writhing 3-5 days, on the mean time you will receive a loaner phone.

Sent from my Thunderbolt!

thank you for the update. it sounds like a better deal than what sprint offers for just $2.00 more per month. spring $7.99 with a deductible and $9.99 with no deductible but does not cover if phone is lost. I think I got it now.

i did buy at Best Buy and all ready have sprint coverage on my old evo 4g. I think i am going to make the switch. thank you for the info.

its 9.99 a month for full coverage. if they can't replace the phone they give you a voucher for the price your phone was worth when you bought it. The only thing they don't cover is a lost phone

Just keep in mind at 8-10 bucks a month, you're looking at 100-120 bucks a year. If you break your phone you'll pay probably 100 bucks deductible to fix it.

Vs if you have no coverage at all and you need to fix it, you'll probably spend 200 bucks, but you've spent zero during the year.

If you never drop your phone you'll be out 100 bucks with the plan, 0 without.

true but isn't that the reason you buy insurance? also at Best Buy they will give you back in rewards points what you pay in if you dont use the insurance. thank all of you for the info.

Sprint will end up being the best deal.... It's cheaper and they cover Lost/Theft for the phone.

If you lose your phone or get it stolen and only have Best Buy's insurance you'll be out about 500 bucks for another Evo 3D, unless you can find one for cheaper, though, highly unlikely.

On thing I don't like about Sprint is that they send you a refurbished phone. (Right now you'd probably get a new one because they probably don't have refurbs of the Evo3D yet, but in 6 months I'm sure they will be sending out refurbs.)

I've had several experiences when the refurb was defective or broke very soon. Do you know if Best Buy will replace with a refurb or with a new phone? If it's new that's reason enough to switch to the Best Buy plan.

I've worked for Sprint Corp retail for 5 years and now at an indirect agent. Here's my take. We have a service department and we see every issue known to phone. With sprint protection plan you get so much more that's not mentioned in the brochure. Start with the Total Equipment Protection app in the market. Its free. It backs up, restores and wipes contacts, Shows you were the phone is if its lost, makes it ring even if on silent and shows you were the phone has been every hour for the past five hours. Its super non-intrusive.

Service and repair options if you have TEP with Sprint - We replace completely shattered screens for free, batteries a lot of the time if a cell bursts or other issues for free, if we have them in stock. Can replace housings etc. Replace speakers and buttons and keys. I could go on and on. I see first hand from behind the counter how hard our guys work to do what ever they have to to get your phone working again. It may mean raping and pillaging another phone for a button or housing. It never hurts to go in and introduce yourself to the tech, ask for the lead tech and get to know him. just say you wanna meet the guy servicing the phone and it always makes it more personable to him and he'll do the repair with a little more urgency and diligence. Don't be the guy who gets all up in his face or he may be more inclined to make you wait while he orders a new one or insists it needs a wipe. Don't bite the hands that can fix your phone or make you spend days re-customizing ;)

Best Buy is OK i guess but Sprints options are much better. If a replacement has to be ordered and is ordered before 2pm you get it next business day. If you must go thru Assurion, if its ordered before 7pm or 8pm cant remember then you get over-nighted the next day for free

rediroc makes some good points. I have been very satisfied with the sprint repair services. They do very good work. But I have not been as satisfied with Assurion (the insurance company that handles total replacements), mainly because they send you refurbished devices which often have their own problems. Also, I don't like the fact that once you get a replacement from Assurion, Sprint techs will no longer make repairs even if it's something that can be fixed. They won't touch Assurion phones, so you forever have to return it to Assurion. I understand this policy, but that doesn't mean that I like it.

Honestly, if money was no object and I wanted the very best service, I'd get the sprint repair plan that doesn't include replacement, and then I'd also get the best buy replacement plan. As it is, I bought my phone from Sam's club to save $25, so my only choice is the sprint plan, and as long as I take good care of my phone (i.e. prevent a total loss), then I'm sure I'll be very happy with sprint's service.

Sprint service store WILL touch the Assurion phones, just not with in the first 30 days as is it warentied thru Assurion and Sprint wont pay us for the repairs before 30 days is up. Same thing if you buy a phone at Sprint and need a repair. The phone is warrantied by the store you bought it at for 30 days and the same thing goes as far as Sprint paying us for those either.

Interesting ... That is not what I was told once when I tried to bring an assurion phone to the sprint store ... I must have been told wrong. Good to know. Thanks.

Best buy told me new only.
I was told this at 1st and then the other day I was at BB an talk with the MG in the phone DP and he said it would be a refurb , so I came home an call the BB Mobile department and they said it would a refurb as we'll . I drop the BB plan

I'm sorry I don't have all the details, but there is an insurance offerred by the "Elm Street Group" (or something close to that-Google them).

Was planning to check them out when I get my new phone-better rates-better replacement policy as I recall. Not sure why they aren't known better(?)

Been paying Sprint's inurance FOREVER and when I had a problem with BB they claimed it was "corroded like I dropped it in water"-NO repair. Thing is NEVER got near water and phone looks brand new! Now I can pay $100 deductable for a POS phone that isn't worth $40.00 on the open market. :(

I work at Best Buy.

Its a complete replacement. Brand new phone for your broken one. Our policy is we will try to fix it, and if we cant we just replace it. The thing is, 99% of the time our people are too lazy and just skip to the replacement, so it really is a good deal.

Just dont lose it.
