Accidental calls during texting

[Android Central Question]

I have an S9+. I sometimes accidentally call someone when texting by hitting the power button. I think this just started since updating to OneUI. Is there a way to disable this function?

This is happening to me constantly since the update on S9, it's embarrassing. I disabled Swipe to call, no difference. I think I'm going to try another text message app and hope that fixes it?

is direct call enabled in settings, advanced features, motions and gestures?

Aha, disabling direct call may have fixed it! Why it thought me setting down the phone or turning off the display was bringing it to my ear I don't know, but I think that was the problem, thank you so much!

This also seemed to work for me. Another WTF moment!
