Has Anyone had success with this tool? I've achieved temp root, but i can't seem to get s-off. does anyone have any tips? should i just keep trying?

I've never tried but everyone I've seen mention it has had no luck with s-off. Since you have temp root, you could downgrade your hboot then root using the old method.

It does not work. Most people have the issue with the temp root vanishing without rebooting as well.

well snap. so if i downgrade hboot, i will still be using gingerbread, but be rooted? so i could use ShiftRR? cause that would be amazing if so. or am i missing something?

I'll get you a link in few but basically you have to temp root, then exploit the hboot (its only one command in terminal on your phone), run the ruu then finally use Shiftrr. This is the only way to get s-off and full root with Gingerbread, as of right now

Edit: here's the guide to do it the long way. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1357157

It would basically be the same other than you could use the tool to gain temp root. I'm assuming that the htc tool's temp root would give you write permissions to the system

thanks. RUU does a clean install basically, right? if so, i think i'll pass. I actually can't afford to do that right now, because of work. I was just hoping the supertool would make the whole process easier.

Yeah it is exploiting your hboot so you can install back to 2.2 and then you root and can flash any rom you want.
Not sure if the RUU does a full clean wipe and install but you can't back anything up (besides apps and data) until you get full root after the rom flash and second root process.

You're right, the ruu does do a full wipe. There are a few apps you can use to backup SOME stuff but you do need full root in order to backup everything.

That for the clarification. So in short you will lose everything except what is synced to google and what data/apps you can back up to your SD card with something like Titanium.

I think Frigid and Indirect need to collaborate on this. Indirect's script temp roots the shift perfectly, we just need S-Off.

Well Indirect doesn't have a Shift. He has a nexus and a tablet he devs for. He did us Shifters a favor with his batch script but it's really just an automated temp root using fr3vo. Otaking71 and Scaryghoul are the ones that discovered the misc.img exploit, and Scary now had a 3D. I may be wrong but I don't see a full root without downgrading anytime soon..

Such a bummer

Honesty though, if you make a backup with titanium, Google and use a app like SMS backup, you really won't lose that much. You can use a app like mybackup to save call log, bookmarks and such... So really your just losing sone settings and passwords.
