Try it!

And thank you 2014 Moto X for lending a brother a hand with your clue about this feature lol

The sensor is actually upper left of the device...it feels good and now I can't stop doing it!

I liked the feature when it came out with the S4 (I think) but then grew tired of it haha. Too many random activations while in my pocket.

This is to turn on Active Display?

This also works on the 2013 Moto X. It's very cool.

I can't believe this was a feature that no one knew about. At first I thought my case covered up whatever sensor controlled this. After taking the case off and testing it the feature works with the case on.

So what's the point of the 4 sensors on the new moto x if we can do it on our old ones? I'm just curious. Either way, I'm still going to buy the new Moto X when it comes down to $400 or so

When an incoming call comes in you can wave to silence the ringing. If an alarm is set you can wave alarm off and to snooze if that is programmed. Those are the two functions that I remember. Oh yeah the sensors are suppose to detect your face and will keep active notifications lit, once it doesn't detect your face the screen goes dark.

Does the 4 infrared sensor make it easier to detect an actual hand wipe....or face. On the 2013 x you have to swipe over the sensor (blocking light and then unblocking). Usually I just tap the phone it senses movement. swipe a piece of paper over the old moto x and active display activates

With the old x it seems to basically detects change of light. Flash a light on and off at the X, you'll notice active display engaging. Or while driving your car different lighting angles make active display turn on. swiping your hand over the phone in the dark doesn't seem to work as well. Perhaps in the new moto x it is improved?

I have the 2013 Moto X. Active display lights up with a wave of hand whether in lighted condition or complete darkness. I think 2013 Moto X uses the proximity sensor to do this (try waving hand a few inches away from the phone, it doesn't work)

Wait wait... Your saying my 2013 moto x can do the wave hand sensor thing? How do I activate it?

Correct and no activation necessary. Keep your 2013 moto x flat and face up on a desk. Wave your hand within few inches of the proximity sensor (near the ear piece) and the active display will go on. It doesn't work like 2014 moto x where you can silence calls and alarms.
