I just got mine and I am a bit confused in having to select a new plan. I am sure others will be as well.
Maybe this thread will help as others answer questions.

The activation process is as follows:

I have selected the "Activate this device and deactivate another device" option.

I select "I know my pin" and plug in my phone number and pin.

It then asks for my email address.

Then it tells me:
"We're sorry. Your current plan is not compatible with this device. To continue, you will have to select a new plan."

Your current plan is Everything Data 450

So basically while simply transferring my phone to the new one it is telling me that my current plan is no longer valid and I need to select a new plan? I am confused.

There should be no change in service that I know of but fine, I will select basically the same plan I have now. I see two options that we can really use under Everything data. I assume we can only use these....

Everything data - Anytime Minutes
$69,99-450
$89.99-900

Of course I want the 450 as that is what I have.

Then it asks me to select "Additional services"

So I select the $10.00 - Premium Data which I assume we have to for the LTE.
I am unsure what would happen if you do not select this.

I also hope I still get my employee discount I had under my old contract. Not a Sprint employee; they were giving discounts if you worked certain places etc...

Anyway I hope this thread helps as others answer questions in it.

I would like to know if LTE is unactivated by default or if that is something you need to do after you get the device.

I don't recall which is default, but that type of thing is simple enough to handle. I'd just check after I powered up if I were you.

Sprint.com is telling me I have to upgrade my plan as well, I'm on the 1500 minutes share plan with my wife. Its only giving me the much higher non-shared plans as an option. Going to give them a call now and see what they say - Nobody ever said I would have to change from my existing plan but I suspect they will be able to assist on the phone.

I had this problem when I got my OG EVO at Radio Shack, they were unable to activate the phone on my existing plan which is the employee referral discount plan. I had to get Sprint to switch it back after activation. I would start with calling them on your current phone to activate the new one.

i have the employee discount too. when my daughter got her last upgrade, the online activation asked me the same questions. i called customer care and they verified that i didn't have to change plans and activated it via phone. give that a try.

Sprint Chat got it activated for me, i couldnt even activate it online myself. I dont think our old plans included "LTE Provisioning" so we had to switch to virtually the same plan, but one that had that.

Sprint customer service was able to activate it properly for me on the phone without switching plans. CSR was really excited I was her first Evo activation and she didn't realize people were getting their phones today.

You can't do it online by yourself after SO many phones get activated on your account.

I think they set a limit. Just go through the Sprint Chat, it should work out smoothly. They do it pretty quickly.

Mine activated fine from the new phone. I just hope I get my discount.
I got this email:

"The Everything Data 450 plan was added to your account and the Everything Data 450 plan was removed." Ummm. Okay... i:Di

It's a newer problem with their system online. I had a similar issue last week activating an older Epic 4G on one of my lines. If you go to chat or just call in, they can take care of it. I was told that if I just selected my existing plan online the system would have seen the problem and corrected it automatically, but... I called in anyway.

"Jessica" but she sounded like a Jessica, said that most people will need to call in to activate their phones. She said some codes had to be switched around.

Just did the chat activation and it worked great ! She said to use chat to activate my wife's phone when she gets home...
