Fedex delivered my TB over an hour ago. Whenever I unlock the screen I still get the "Please wait while your phone is activating" error message.

How long is this supposed to take? Obviously more than the 2 minutes it states at the bottom of the screen.

Did you end up getting it activated? Was there a problem or did it just take a while?

I've been waiting about 30 minutes - same thing.

once my sim was in it took 25 mins for my numbe to port over an started recieving calls, of course i was in stores, but this sounds a lil strange. did it ever go thru?

I activated by calling the number in the activation manual and then inserted the sim card. Turned the phone on and it was activated and working within one minute after that.

R

called tech help and they suggested power down, battery pull. A few minutes later is was activated.

Thanks everyone.

In my case there was a billing change pending that was "blocking activation". Support took care of it and it activated in seconds.

Turn phone off, take sim out, wait 5 minutes and put sim back in. Turn phone back on and viola!!! You will activate within a minute or two.

There's a little glossy 2 page booklet that's in the box; which I quickly tossed aside when I removed it from the packaging.

I finally looked at it, and these steps seem to be the secret to my success:

  1. Ignore step 1 or you will have that stupid backup assistant program that is unnecessary on an Android phone.
  2. Make sure TB is powered down and the SIM card is removed.
  3. Dial 877.807.4646 - from any phone - to activate your 4G LTE service. It also says to have your customer receipt ready because you will be asked to conform the information on it - including the mobile number assigned to the LTE SIM card.
  4. Insert SIM card and then power up. It will then go through the activation process.
  5. Get that battery cover put back on - or you'll see the phone stuck in 1x.

I called that number and entered the phone # and required soc #, then they asked me for a 7 digit number?! I couldn't find one... I also don't have an "activation guide." The thing that came with my SIM card says (after instructions on installing the SIM) "Power on your device. It may take a few moments for the 4G SIM card to register with the network. It is not necessary to dial *228 to activate the 4G SIM. Device is ready to use."
Is there a danger in putting it all together, charging it up, THEN turning it on to let the SIM activate?

To activate: go online and into your myverizon page. Activate the device. Then, power up the phone with the SIM inserted. No need to call anything.

This is all unnecessary.

See my previous reply.

Bought my phone this afternoon, but waiting until midnight for activation.
Hopefully I'll be activated in another 2 hours.

Transferred a Prepaid Pay As You Go account to a 1 year Smartphone account.
I was told that I needed to wait until midnight for the account to switch over. Was glad when the rep told me unused prepaid $ would also transfer. :)

My Prepaid LG Accolade was a good phone, but it's time for something better!
"Two phones enter, one phone leaves. Welcome to ThunderBolt!"

Seems odd it would take that long unless something is not setup correctly on your line (Data plan - billing etc..) Both of my TB's auto activated when they first turned on -- one took about 2 minutes (could hear the verizon jingle) --- 2nd one activated in about 30 seconds. I would not wait more than 15 minutes before either logging into your MyVerizon or calling. If your SIM card was setup correctly (to your #, ESN etc...) your phone should auto activate when powered on -- No more *228's.

New TB phone with transfered number from old prepaid account didn't activate after midnight.
Though Verizon did send me an email at midnight that the PrePaid account had been de-enrolled from My Account.
  • Tried turning TB power Off and On several times.
  • Tried taking the battery out, and putting it back in.
  • Tried calling the 877.807.4646 number twice, but after inputing the 10 digit mobile number, recieved an error message "Sorry. I'm having some technical difficulties. Please try again later."
  • Unable to login at MyVerizon, because I hadn't set up a MyVerizon account previously.
  • Unable to register at MyVerizon, because it says my cell phone number must have service to register.
I'll get it working tomorrow for sure. Should have just gotten a new phone number, though.

Still don't have ThunderBolt activation yet, but I found out something useful when I stopped off at the VZW Store that I purchased my phone from.

Apparently, if you're switching from a Prepaid to a Postpaid (contract) account, then it will take a full 24 hours for Verizon to transfer the number and setup the new account.
The Verizon rep said that the postpaid account exists, but he was told that the transfer hasn't fully completed yet, and for this type of account transfer it takes 24 hours.

So, my phone should start working pretty soon.
I'll get to keep my old number, and $60 I had on my prepaid account is transferring to my contract account.

Well, at least I had a chance to buy a car charger, a bluetooth headset, and some headphones while I was there.
