Active display and tweaking it?

1- Is there a way to set up the display so that phone will unlock by waving hand over it and not having to swipe down to open

2- Im not the hugest fan of the notifications blinking on the active display until checked. Is there a way to disable the recurrent blinking and set it up so that you can randomly just wave over it and see if you received any messages/notifications in the notification bar etc.?
For me, a perfect scenario would be active display blinking a few times then stopping. Then later I can check it when I get time w/o it blinking itself to death...

I don't think it blinks face down or in a pocket. So if nothing else, you could last it face down or maybe rig something to cover up the sensors.

I do agree a clean solution to both of these.
