Active Sync

Good evening guys, I figured I would post this here and try and get some help. I just recently sold my Lumia 920 WP8 which was a marvelous device and everything worked fluently and fast. I've had my eye on the HTC ONE for a couple of weeks now. Today I bit the bullet and finally purchased one for myself. A 64gb white which is a gorgeous piece of hardware. Since I have already been an android user before I settled in and got my accounts setup. Everything went smoothly for my Hotmail account with calendars and contacts syncing seamlessly and without problem I was actually expecting problems lol!!

Now for my office work we use Microsoft Outlook 2010 and obviously my WP worked with active sync just flawlessly and I had no problems setting that all up so I figured it would be the same with my ONE. I was wrong and here is where I need some feedback. Despite googlin all day and looking through forums I just can't find out what is wrong since my Lumia 920 worked perfectly and nothing changed at the office.

Just so you guys understand what I mean, all I need is for my One to sync to my work server so I can receive my work emails on the go, I don't care about plugging in any USB cables are anything of the nature, I just need my email to work and sync wireless lyrics like normal. Every time I enter my Active Sync account information, I keep getting the same error message
''Failed to connect to the exchange server
Please check exchange server settings ''

These are the same settings used with my WP and I've tried several alterations without any avail. I have no idea what is going on and I am beginning to regret this purchase :(:(:( I love everything about this phone but I desperately need Outlook 2010 to sync or I am **** out of luck guy's. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated I just can't seem to find the answer despite my ****ty search efforts.

Thanks ahead of time
Julian

You can still get exchange emails on your phone. My wife is setup with exchange on her HTC One.

When you use the default mail client you will put your email settings as

yourname@yourdomain.com
password

Then it will ask for further settings and show something listed as
domain\username

Sometimes your domain name has to use a local format so it would look like

yourdomain.local\yourname
or it could be yourdomain.com\yourname

This has to do with how the active directory was designed and if it was migrated from an older 2003 server that follow .local practices more strictly.

Sometimes with older exchange servers you need to remove the domain plus slash symbol
so your user name will be
yourname and you ignore the domain\ part

Also were your exchange server is listed there might be an actual servername you need to use.

For example some companies will have a exchange server name mail.
So your server name has to be put in as mail.yourdomain.com.
Sometimes your server name just needs the www, so you would put www.yourdomain.com
There can be other factors too such as SSL interference, but hopefully I put you on the right path.

Sorry if I over complicated with this, but this is one of my few areas of expertise.

I am having no problem with two Exchange servers on my One. Don't give up! Not sure what version my client is using but settings are:

Email: me@domain.com
Server address: mail.domain.com (yours may not be mail)
Domain: domain (don't use the dot com, just domain name)
Username: me
Password: your password
SSL connection = Yes

Hope you get it working. The One is an awesome device.

P.S. On my tablet I had to use domain.com/me as the user as suggested above.

My One is connected to my office's exchange server. It syncs contacts and calendar. For some reason, it will not sync my email inbox. Very frustrating.

Man I cant even get the exchange account to connect! My previous iphones and Windows device was not complicated at all. I really dont`t know what to do since I have been trying numerous entreies and it`s just not working :(:( I am soo discouraged because this phone is the best I have had with my Lumia 920

I feel your frustration but what you know is that it will connect. It's just an issue of figuring out the right way to enter the information. Took me a few tries.

It gets my other email folders, just not my inbox. Wish I could solve the problem but I've not been able to, yet.

if you can post a screenshot of your server settings I might be able to help better. It is hard to do this without seeing it in front of me.

I have no problems getting my work email and calendar to sync, including push email. We are using office365 as our mail server, having switched over from Outlook a couple of months ago. I had a devil of a time getting it to connect at first, but then I noticed that the box for "Require an encrypted SSL connection" was unchecked; once I remembered to check this, it attached with no issues. I know it's a long-shot, but is there any chance that is your problem, here?

Hope this helps. Good luck with this. You shouldn't have to get rid of the best phone out right now, because of this!

Hey guys I truly appreciate all the help and support you guys have given me!! In the end I am very happy that my IT at work finally configured and fixed this today and now my friends this is truly the best device that I have ever owned. And the support in these forums is pristine to say the least.

Thanks again everyone I appreciate it

Hi michaelp68:

Under your "Sync, Send & Receive" settings do you have Folder to sync set to "Inbox"? Check your other settings on that screen for anything weird.

For example my settings are:

Peak time sync: Push mail
Peak time: Mon-Fri, 8am -8pm
Off peak sync: Every two hours
Download past mail: 30 days
Refresh on open: Download mail when I open folder
Folder to sync: Inbox ( you can select more than one folder)

The rest of the settings shouldn't have too much effect on getting mail unless your "Mail size limit" effectively stops you from receiving by being set too low.

I'm deleting the Exchange account and will re-install it. Last time I tried this, it worked for a day. Maybe I'll get lucky, and I'll verify those settings, too.

Hi Ferazz,

Like you, I've also just purchased the greatest Android phone out so far but having issues with setting up Exchange Active Sync for my company mail.

Are you able to share how your IT dept manage to resolve this issue?

Your kind help is very much appreciated.

Thanks
