ActiveSync stopped working

Hi,
I have a Samsung EPIC (a friend has an HTC model and another has an iPhone) and we are all having the same problem so it doesn't appear to be an issue with the individual phone models. We were all getting our work email on our phones with ActiveSync with no problems and then 2 days ago we noticed we were no longer getting work emails. We all tried deleting and then setting the account up again but it won't let us do so. We get an error message that username/password are incorrect (they aren't) and authentication failed. I've googled the error and while I can see that lots of people are having the same issue I don't understand what the problem actually is. Is it a Google problem? Microsoft? A problem with our work exchange server? I did check with our IT folks and they said there have been no changes made on their end. I'm hoping that someone can explain it simply so I can understand it and then hopefully find out if there is anything we can do to correct it. Some other folks have mentioned some other exchange apps in the Market but I've tried those and can't get them to work either.

I have a T-Mobile HTC MyTouch4G and mine stopped working yesterday. i cannot even get to the Exchange server with a 3rd Party App (Corp-Mail)
Help Please?

it wourked with touchdown, but i can't afford to pay 20.00 when the trial ends...
