The mobile site has an intrusive and persistent ad banner that covers article links.

Anyone else seeing this?

I just loaded the site on my phone and tablet and that isn't showing up. Do you have any other devices that you can check to see if it's happening on?

Now it's not doing it. I'm using Chrome.

Edit: Spoke too soon. Now it's back.

Is it only AC that is doing it? Are any other mobile sites experiencing the issue? I don't see how it could be something on the AC end, as, I don't have the issue on two separate devices.

Only AC's mobile site as far as I can tell.

Are the devices in your sig up to date? If so, you seem to have several Android devices. Is it doing it on all of them?

It's showing up on my WiFi-only Motorola Xoom also. Took a few minutes browsing the site for it to show up, but eventually it did. Other devices are no longer active.

Seems to be limited to Verizon ads. I don't have any Verizon apps, nor am I a Verizon mobile subscriber.

Who is your ISP? Verizon? Are you using your carrier's data, or, is your phone on WiFi?

I will try and browse the site for a couple of minutes to see if it shows up.

Seems intermittent now. When an ad shows up on a page it gets in the way of important links and also appears at the bottom of the page when you scroll down to it.

No other sites seem to have the problem. I don't have Flash installed, so it can't be from that.

Very strange.

^ This.

Also, I have been browsing the mobile site for about five minutes now on my Prime and not a single add. Weird.

Browsing on WiFi. ISP is Verizon FiOS. Carrier is Straight Talk (AT&T SIM).

Still showing up, but it's not just Verizon ads. Just got one for Mobil 1 oil. Showed up at the bottom of the comments on the Google Wallet article.

Have you tried checking the mobile site using your carrier's data instead of WiFi?

I think I figured it out. Anyone here use the Moviefone app?

I noticed in the browser's Content settings page under websites that I had an entry for some kind of adserver website. I cleared the data for it and it disappeared from the list.

Then I closed the browser and reopened. It came back. So I then downloaded Lookout's Ad Network Detector and ran a scan. It found the usual ad networks that a lot of apps use, but then it found one that was only being used by Moviefone. So I took a chance and uninstalled Moviefone.

So far, the ad server entry hasn't come back in my browser's settings.

As a final test, I'll reinstall Moviefone and see if the ad server shows up again. Then I'll know for sure.

This is the culprit.

It shows up in the Content settings Websites page.

I think the AdWhirl network is responsible. It allows 3rd-party ads. Got some housekeeping to do. Never had ads show up like that before. There may be more than one app that does it.

Glad you figured it out, but it's still weird that it would display ads over the site content.

I am getting the pop ups as well. I don't have MovieFone installed, nor do I have any adservers showing up in content settings. Not sure what to try now. Any suggestions?

Update: That same adserver you found just showed up in settings, so I ran the Lookout application and discovered that Klondike Solitaire and Speedtest use it. I uninstalled Klondike, and cleared the adserver from settings. So far no return of the annoying banner.

Crap! Looks like I was pre-mature in my diagnosis. I'm still getting it. And still have the adserver listed. I haven't isolated what's causing it. It's only showing up on mobile sites (in particular all of the Mobile Nations-related sites).

I have noticed that if you turn on the "Request Desktop Site" feature for a mobile-only site, like m.androidcentral.com, the ads don't show up, even though it's a mobile-formatted site. So it must be looking at the browser's user agent setting to determine whether it should show up or not.

Are you sure you don't have an adserver listed? You have to look under Settings/Content Settings/Website settings to find it. If the ads are showing up for you, but you don't have the adserver, then that is double-perplexing.

(Right now, I'm not seeing the ads...and the adserver entry isn't present. I wonder what the trigger is.)
