Adaptive Brightness

I've never personally liked any type of auto screen brightness control. I don't use it and find I still prefer it that way. I generally set it and forget it, usually between 40 to 60% range.

Never use it always off ,screen brightness at 30%if I'm outside for something I might turn it up, night light always on

I use it, and I notice that when I use my phone in the dark (which is when I use it most since I'm up and working nights), that it does it's stop. I'm still getting a battery life that is beyond what I expected so I'm happy with it.

I have been using auto brightness on my Droid Turbo 2 for the past 2 years and it never seemed to be that good (randomly fluctuates at wrong times, doesn't dim when expected, etc.). If the Google auto isn't up to par I think I'll finally adopt using a solid brightness level and adjust it myself.

I use it and I set my brightness at 60%... Give a lil boost when I step outside for a few, and a nice reduction at night. I actually like the feature a lot.

I use it, but it is a bit wonky. The screen will randomly get darker at times when there's no shift in light.

this happened on my XL1 also, so maybe it's just inconsistent

I use Lux Dash. It allows you to build a personal profile of screen brightness to ambient light. My typical profile has about 6-8 settings and the app extrapolates for the points between those....Much more effective than the native Adaptive Display.

Setting it up is simple. It has a widget in the notification drop-down that allows one touch setting for brightness at that ambient light. If you like it, there's a "link" button (cute actually, it's a couple of chain links) to add that to your profile. After you do that 5-6 times, the app runs quietly in the background. Easy to disable if need be through the same widget.

I was using it, but noticed it was too sensitive in low light, creating a flicker effect at times. I switched to Lux auto brightness for a bit, then just turned all auto brightness off. It's a trivial matter to slide down the notification screen and tweak the brightness myself if I ever feel the need to, which I only rarely do...

Is the battery THAT MUCH better with adaptive off?

I tried it.. Off and on for awhile, but it is a bit flickery for my taste.

At this point, I'd actually take a batter hit. I'm usually at like 35-40% when bed time rolls around, so it's that awkward point where I wonder if I plug in or not for the night.

My adaptive brightness is all over the place. I liked it because I find my screen too bright most of the time and it gets darker with it.
I don't know if I have a wonky phone or what but it's two pm and I have adaptive brightness off and my screen at 10% and it's really bright.

The auto brightness of my Pixel 2 is all over the place. Most erratic phone I've had for years. I'm trying to adjust it manually. I think I might be too lazy to do it all the time though!

Anyone else experiencing this? If not perhaps I need to swap it out?

Yeah the auto brightness is all over the place for me too. It hasn't bothered me, because with adaptive brightness its like 15% that I've put it on, which is good for me when it doesn't draw in much light.

But yeah.. I also noticed adaptive brightness turned off is much brighter than with... How would you save battery with it turned off when its less bright overall than with adapative brightness lighting settings you used before even when it takes in more light to brighten it up? Is the switching that's actually straining? Like the brightness at 2% without adaptive brightness is actually brighter than 20% with adaptive brightness.
