Android Central Question

Okay first let me explain that my phone was going bezerk, it would do things and I didnt understand why. Keep in mind that I bought a "generic" battery and started to think it was a battery issue. I had thought about buying a new phone but then after a lot of thought, I figured I'd better see if the problem is actually the battery or is it a short in my phone somewhere? Well while I was waiting and bored (the start of my problem!) I decided to do the power/volume/ and home screen. That brought up the rebooting screen or whatever it is. I seen an entry with, "update using ADB. Well i did this and lost everything. I am so frustrated because it appears all the files are still on the phone seem to be there - I seen files with titles of my games listed on this screen, so that tells me all is not lost AND i had a backup onto google but i cannot figure out how to use it. My phone appears to be "factory" restored but I'm not positive. I have tried to root my phone, only to receive an error message that it failed. Anyway to undo this? Anyone know how (step-by-step)? I figure it was the battery and I'm so angry with myself for even trying this. Help?
Let me mention that I do have a google back up (although I'm afraid it will back it up now and I'll lose the back up I want). I turned the back up off but a few different searches on the internet suggested I needed to leave it on. So anyway, I know I have a back up on google drive - has 11/18 as the date for the last back up which is good because I didn't experience this problem until 11/19...I can also go into recovery mode and I'm not sure which one I selected but I seen all my old programs still there but not sure how to restore them...it looks as though I can restore them individually but I'd be here until 2020! I'm hoping all is not lost but if it is, I'm going for a $35 phone and I'm done! This isn't worth the money we pay then they want a ton more money to help..."umm didn't we already give you enough to cover that?"

Each model phone uses a different method for each version of Android. (Someone has to find a bug somewhere that gives temporary toot, so the phone can be rooted. And as soon as someone finds a way, the manufacturer patches that way in the next update.)

XDA Forums is the place to go for rooting information - put your phone's make and model into the search box, then select your carrier, then look for rooting in the subforum you get to.
